TL;DR
- The all-electric or BEV SUV platform is developed by three companies: Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Corporation.
- It will be manufactured using the Suzuki Motor plant in Gujarat, starting in the second calendar quarter of 2025.
Suzuki and Toyota are working on a new battery-powered SUV. This will be the first all-electric vehicle developed by the companies as part of their ongoing collaboration. What’s interesting is that the companies are looking forward to launching this vehicle not just in India but in other markets like Japan, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East as well.
The final version of the vehicle, dubbed eVX for Maruti Suzuki’s customers, is arriving on November 4, in a launch event organized in Milan, Italy. Since the vehicle is marked for a global launch, it will comply with global safety norms, which is an added bonus over the company’s reliability.

Three Companies Are Working Together On The Upcoming BEV SUV

According to a report by the Economic Times, the all-electric or BEV SUV platform is developed by three companies: Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Corporation. We’ve seen how Maruti uses Toyota’s hybrid powertrain on its compact and mid-sized petrol SUVs. When the electric SUV arrives, it could be sold by both Maruti Suzuki as the eVX and Toyota as the Urban SUV.
The Vehicle Will Provide A 4WD System
What we know is that the BEV will feature a 4WD system for enhanced drivability on rough terrains. Further, the vehicle will boast agile driving characteristics, which could be related to the steering and suspension setup. The vehicle will also provide an ample cruising range and a comfortable cabin.
In the past, Maruti Suzuki has showcased the eVX as a concept car in several exhibitions. Per available information, the BEV could be equipped with a 60kWh battery pack that is rated to last up to 550 kilometers on a single charge. However, the real-world range of the vehicle could be lower. On the other hand, Toyota could provide two battery packs, the range of which isn’t known yet.

“Suzuki will supply our first BEV to Toyota globally. I am grateful that the collaboration between the two companies has further deepened in this way,” said Toshihiro Suzuki, the president of Suzuki. “By leveraging the BEV unit and platform that we jointly developed, we will take a new step in our collaboration in the field of electrified vehicles,” said Koji Sato, the president of Toyota.
Suzuki And Toyota Could Launch The BEV By 2025
The all-electric vehicle will be manufactured using the Suzuki Motor plant in Gujarat, starting in the second calendar quarter of 2025. Following this, the company could announce and maybe even ship the vehicles to the dealerships by the fourth quarter of the year, right in time for the festive season, which sees exponential growth in sales.
