TL;DR
  • Sony Alpha 7R VI is now available in India at ₹4,70,990 (body-only), with sales starting July 3 via Amazon, ShopatSC, and Sony Center stores.
  • You get a 66.8MP back-illuminated sensor, Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 processor, 8K video at 30fps, and up to 30fps bursts with blackout-free shooting. The AI autofocus keeps your shots sharp.
  • Sony includes a free NP-SA100 battery (worth ₹10,490) with every purchase as a launch offer.

Sony India just launched the Alpha 7R VI, its highest-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera so far. Arriving on July 3 for ₹4,70,990, the Alpha 7R VI is a 66.8-megapixel mirrorless powerhouse capable of recording 8K video and shooting full-resolution stills at 30 frames per second. By putting that much speed and detail into a single body, Sony is directly targeting hybrid shooters who previously had to carry two cameras to get the job done.

Sony now targets hybrid shooters with 32-bit float audio and a dual-gain video mode that keeps shadows clean. The 7R VI handles both serious stills and video work. As a launch offer, you get a free NP-SA100 battery worth ₹10,490.

Sensor and processing

Sony uses a 66.8MP back-illuminated sensor and the latest BIONZ XR2 processor, just like the Alpha 1 II and Alpha 9 III. You get up to 16 stops of dynamic range, less noise at any ISO, and processing speeds over five times faster than the last 7R V.

You can shoot up to 30 frames per second with no blackout. The camera tracks focus and exposure 60 times a second. If you shoot wildlife or sports and always had to choose between speed and resolution, the 7R VI finally gives you both.

Sony’s Real-time Recognition AF+ autofocus now uses a dedicated AI chip that tracks people by reading their body pose, a feature borrowed from Sony’s cinema cameras. Portrait and wedding photographers will see better eye focus, even when subjects move or turn away.

8.5 stops Stabilization

Sony improved its five-axis in-body stabilization for the 7R VI. You get up to 8.5 stops of shake reduction at the center and 7 stops at the edges. If you shoot wide-angle and care about edge sharpness, you get a bit less correction at the corners. Still, 8.5 stops at the center is best in class for a high-res camera. You can shoot handheld at 1/15th of a second with a 50mm lens and still get sharp results.

8K, 4K 120p, Video and dual gain Audio

The Alpha 7R VI is Sony’s sharpest stills camera that also shoots 8K video at 30fps. Most people will use the full-frame 4K at 120fps mode for slow motion because it does not crop the image. The new Dual Gain feature cuts noise and keeps shadow detail in video, which helps if you like to color grade your footage.

Audio gets a big upgrade too. With the new XLR-A4 adaptor (₹69,490), you can record 32-bit float audio straight into the camera. You do not have to set gain levels while shooting. This makes the 7R VI a real option for documentary and run-and-gun filmmakers.

Build, viewfinder, and battery

The 7R VI uses a 9.44-million-dot OLED viewfinder that covers the DCI-P3 color space and supports HDR. You see your final image before you press the shutter. The rear screen tilts and flips in four directions, so you can shoot comfortably for both photos and video.

The new NP-SA100 battery (2,670 mAh) powers the camera for about 710 shots with the LCD or 600 shots with the EVF, based on CIPA tests. For a high-res camera, that is decent battery life. You also get two USB Type-C ports, so you can charge and transfer files at the same time. This is a handy upgrade for studio shooters who work tethered.

Pricing and ecosystem costs

The body costs ₹4,70,990, but building a full kit adds up fast. Here is what the main accessories cost:

  • NP-SA100 battery: ₹10,490 (free with launch offer)
  • BC-SAD1 battery charger: ₹15,990
  • DC-C2 DC coupler: ₹15,990
  • VG-C6 vertical grip: ₹40,490
  • XLR-A4 XLR adaptor: ₹69,490

The launch bundle saves you ₹10,490 and includes a spare battery. That is a must for long shoots. You can buy the camera on Amazon India, Sony ShopatSC, and Sony Center stores from July 3.
