Canon has officially announced the EOS R6 Mark III, a next-generation full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at hybrid creators who demand pro-grade image quality and flexible video performance. It succeeds the R6 Mark II and brings major upgrades across sensor, speed, and AI autofocus, positioning itself as one of Canon’s most capable mid-range full-frame bodies yet.

The R6 Mark III sits neatly between Canon’s flagship R5 and the enthusiast-level R7, making it a compelling option for content creators who shoot both stills and high-resolution video. With 7K recording, AI autofocus, and RAW Light workflows, it’s clear Canon is building this as a bridge between traditional photography and modern cinematography.

7K RAW Video and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

At the heart of the R6 Mark III lies a 32.5-megapixel sensor paired with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, capable of locking focus in lighting conditions as low as EV -6.5 for photos and EV -4 for video. The camera shoots bursts at up to 40 fps, and supports 7K60p RAW video in both 17:9 and open-gate 3:2 aspect ratios, a serious step up for filmmakers.

Canon says footage can be captured in 12-bit Canon RAW Light Movie format, saved directly to either a CFexpress Type B or UHS-II V90 SD card. For color-grade-friendly footage, Canon Log 2 and Log 3 profiles deliver over 15 stops of dynamic range. There’s also AI-driven neural image processing to enhance still image clarity and reduce noise.

Built for Creators and Professionals

The EOS R6 Mark III features a 0.5-inch, 3.96-million-dot OLED EVF alongside a 3-inch, 1.62-million-dot vari-angle LCD, making it equally at home in studio setups and on location. ISO performance ranges from 50 to 102,400 (expandable) for photos and 100 to 102,400 for video.

A new in-body image stabilization system offers up to 7.5 stops of shake correction, while the AI-powered AF tracking recognizes people, pets, and vehicles for consistent accuracy during fast-moving shoots.

For animators, Canon is even offering a special Stop Motion Edition, optimized for Dragonframe software with Focus Position Memory and Aperture Lock, plus an enhanced Live View resolution of 1920 × 1280 pixels.
