Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Phones: OnePlus 12, iQOO 12, Galaxy S24 and more

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been powering flagship smartphones effectively for this past year. Now, Qualcomm has taken the next leap forward. The chipmaker has launched a new chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 which will be powering most of the upcoming flagship devices of 2023 and 2024. Qualcomm has given it the SM8650 model number and it is fabricated on a 4nm node process using 64-bit architecture. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gets a bump up in CPU performance, GPU performance, and Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Highlights

  • Qualcomm’s AI engine incorporates hexagon process enhancements, offering a 98 percent speed boost and a 40 percent efficiency increase.
  • The 4nm chip, powered by Qualcomm Kryo CPU, delivers speeds up to 3.3 GHz, a 30 percent performance increase, and a 20 percent efficiency gain. The CPU comprises five Performance cores (up to 3.2 GHz) and two Efficiency cores (up to 2.3 GHz).
  • Gamers can enjoy a superior experience with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and global illumination, supporting 240 fps gaming on compatible displays. The Qualcomm Adreno GPU is 25 percent faster and more efficient.
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 introduces advanced AI-powered camera features, including the Video Object Eraser by Arcsoft for video element removal, new zoom capabilities, object tracking, and 2X and 4X zoom.
  • The chip supports Dolby HDR and features Photo Expansion, enhancing images through AI.
  • Connectivity options include Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 System with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support. It is equipped with Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System, the world’s first 5G modem with an integrated AI tensor hardware accelerator.
  • Audiophiles benefit from 24-bit 96 kHz lossless music support over Bluetooth, USB Version 3.1 Gen 2, USB Type-C, and UFS 4.0 storage.

Expected Smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chipset

1. Xiaomi 14 Series

Xiaomi 13 Series was powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and continuing the trend Xiaomi 14 Series will be the first to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The series is expected to launch on October 27 in India and will be a premium offering by the brand.

Xiaomi 14 is expected to flaunt an AMOLED display with 2K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. It is said to have a titanium frame and satellite connectivity for emergencies. The smartphone will pack a 5000mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. In terms of camera optics, there might be a triple 50MP lens setup at the back. The series is said to include 2 models- Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro and pricing is said to begin around 50k.

Xiaomi 14 series is tipped to go on sale in India from October 31.

2. OnePlus 12

The next flagship from OnePlus will also be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The launch is expected to take place in China in November. Leaked renders suggest that the design of the OnePlus 12 will be similar to its predecessor. There will be 50MP primary, 50MP ultrawide, and 64MP telephoto lenses at the back. At the front will be a 32MP selfie camera.

OnePlus 12 is expected to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be an LTPO panel. There is said to be 16GB RAM and 256GB storage along with a 5400mAh battery under the hood. As for charging, OnePlus 12 might come with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capability.

3. iQOO 12 Series

iQOO 12 Series will also be amongst the first ones to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It will include iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro smartphones and might be announced in November for the Chinese market. Some reports claim iqoo will launch the series in the same month in India.

The iQOO 12 smartphone is expected to have a 6.78-inch E7 AMOLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate and a 2K resolution. There will be HDR10+ and 1440Hz PWM dimming as well. Along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, there is said to be 16GB RAM and 1TB storage onboard. In terms of camera, the iQOO 12 might get an OIS-enabled 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide, and 64MP telephoto lenses at the back. At the front will be a 16MP lens. Under the hood, there will be a 5000mAh battery with 200W wired fast charging. It will run Android 14-based FunTouchOS 14 out of the box.

4. Realme GT 5 Pro

Realme’s first with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC will reportedly be Realme GT 5 Pro. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 along with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage. There is said to be a 2K display a Sony IMX9 1/1.4x primary sensor with OIS and a 64MP OmniVision PV64B periscope lens with a 3x optical zoom. GT 5 Pro will reportedly support 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. Battery capacity is not known yet.

5. Oppo Find X7 Series

The Oppo Find X7 Series will include Find X7 and Find X7 Pro smartphones. It is expected to launch in Q1 2024 and be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The devices are said to feature a Samsung E6 2K LTPO display with 2500 nits brightness. In terms of the camera, there will be a 32MP selfie lens at the front and a triple camera setup at the back. The back camera will include a 50MP main shooter, an IMX890 ultrawide sensor, and an IMX890 periscope lens.

6. Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Series will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for some regions. The series will launch in January 2024 and include 3 devices- Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24+, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. In some regions, the series is said to be powered by Exynos 2400 chipset. The Galaxy S24 Series is also expected to have titanium in its body and the Ultra model will have a 200MP main camera sensor like the S23 Ultra. Battery capacities are also expected to improve this time along with charging speeds.

7. Honor Magic 6 Series

The upcoming series from Honor, the Honor Magic 6 Series is also expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The series will include Honor Magic 6, Honor Magic 6 Pro, and Honor Magic 6 Ultimate smartphones. The series will run MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14 and have a dynamic island-like feature for Pro and Ultimate models. The Ultimate model is expected to feature a 200MP camera setup. There is no news about whether the series will come to India or not.

8. Meizu 21 Series

Meizu 21 Series smartphones will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 series. The devices will reportedly have a vertical camera stack and an RGB ring LED flash. The launch is expected to happen in Q1 2024. Other than a vertical camera stack, there will be a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization along with a periscope telephoto lens.

9. Red Magic 9 Series

The Red Magic 9 series is being made for gamers. The Red Magic 9 Series is said to debut in December 2023 or January 2024. The devices will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC along with 12GB RAM. Red Magic 9 Series will run Android 14 OS out of the box, as confirmed by the Geekbench listing of the device.

Vivo X100 Series, Oppo Find N3 series, and Redmi K70 Series are also expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
