Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC announced for budget smartphones: Will support 5G Connectivity & 120Hz refresh rate

Leading chipmaker Qualcomm has introduced a new SoC that will cater to budget-friendly devices across the globe. Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Chipset has been announced which claims to make the smartphone experience even better for budget smartphone users. The chipset comes with 5G Connectivity support, all-day use with good speeds, 120Hz display support, impressive photography, and videography support, and more.  Read on to know about the features of the chipset in detail.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2: Features

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset is built on a 4nm platform and the Kyro CPU gives peak speeds of up to 2.2GHz and up to 10% better CPU performance for speedier everyday performance. It supports FHD+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and thus claims to offer better clarity and smooth, seamless scrolling.

The 4 Gen 2 chipset supports electronic image stabilization (EIS) and faster autofocus. This will give blue-free clearer images, even when subjects are moving. It is the first time in the 4-series Multi Camera Temporal Filtering is built into hardware giving better videos by reducing noise.

The chipset comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 which can give up to 50% battery life in 15 minutes. It is powered by the Snapdragon X61 5G Modem-RF System and there’s Qualcomm WiFi 5 for fast and strong WiFi connectivity for gaming, streaming, and more. AI enhancements have also been made. These include AI-based low light for crisp, detailed images in dim environments. Background noise removal to make sure clarity on calls and videos is better is also expected.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2: Availability

Commercial devices with this new chipset are expected to be announced in the 2nd half of 2023. Redmi and Vivo have confirmed to launch phones with the 4 Gen 2 chipset. If reports are to be believed then Redmi Note 12R might be the 1st smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.
