Ray tracing technology in smartphones is going to be the next big thing, and social media applications are already tightening their belts for the same. In a recent development, Snapchat has introduced ray tracing on the platform, which will let the users get a high-quality augmented reality (AR) experience. As claimed by the company, any clothing, other product, or clothing that is based on augmented reality will make the products look ultra-realistic with the fusion of ray tracing tech.

This help multiple brands that use Snapchat to provide AR filters get better and more accurate results. Ray tracing will also help in making the light effect better. As of now, Tiffany and Ci can be dubbed as the first brand to utilize ray tracing technology on Snapchat with the newly introduced Tiffany Lock Lens. The latest lens by the brand allows customers to try the Tiffany Lovk bracelets with the use of AR-based filters. If the user likes the product, then they can simply purchase the same without even leaving the application.

Snapchat’s ray tracing feature details

First things first, the ray tracing feature by Snapchat is available for both Android and iOS versions, and it is also live in India. Expectations are that we will get to see more use cases and filters that will use ray tracing technology for an immersive experience.

In simple terms, ray tracing is a technique that works on the principle of graphics rendering that reflections, shadows, and lights behave similarly to their real-world nature. Technology has been used in computers for a long time. Nonetheless, smartphones got introduced to the same pretty recently. To support the ray tracing technology, Qualcomm and MediaTek have started rolling out processors that will support the same. It will be interesting to see how the companies, as well as the audience, will react to the increasing use of ray tracing.
