BYD cars have been one of the most tech-heavy EVs in recent times in our market. The BYD Sealion 7 is one of those cars which has gained a lot of attention, mainly for the kind of tech that the premium electric SUV offers. The highlight? A 15.6-inch infotainment display which also rotates to change orientation into vertical or horizontal.
The BYD Sealion 7’s infotainment display is also the center for all car settings, and also has a few essential controls that should have not been touch-sensitive. Let’s start. Before I do, the drill is as usual. I will rate the BYD Sealion 7’s infotainment display based on five factors – display size, brightness, responsiveness, sharpness, and the UI. All these will be scored out of a maximum score of 5, and then we will give you a final average score. Let’s go.

BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display Screen Size – 5/5
Full five on five here. We get a 15.6-inch display that is also available in two different kinds of orientations: vertical or horizontal, based on your style and use case. For this, I will give the BYD Sealion 7 a full 5 on 5 because in terms of the size, it’s a bit of an overkill. Nobody needs this big of a display in their car, but if you have one it gets full marks for size. On top of that, this also has a party trick where it rotates to change orientation. Fancy stuff.
BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display Brightness – 5/5
For brightness also, I will give the BYD Sealion 7 a full five on five. This is as bright as a car display gets. We didn’t get a chance to measure it with a lux meter, but using the BYD Sealion 7’s display in bright sun, even with the panoramic glass roof open wasn’t an issue at all. In fact, the display looks and feels exactly the same in all kinds of environments, regardless of how bright or dull. The range is also solid, from almost dim to super bright, pretty sure every person will be able to find that perfect spot for themselves.

BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display Responsiveness – 4.5/5
Responsiveness is directly related to the refresh rate of the display. Here, we get a 60Hz display, which is superb for an infotainment display. This, however, is not the most responsive or slick display that I have used in this segment of cars, hence the 0.5 deduction. Furthermore, the responsiveness drops more in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as compared to the in-car UI that BYD is using for the Sealion 7.
BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display Sharpness – 5/5
Another area where this display gets full points. The sharpness on this display is as good as you’d expect from a car display. We get a 1920 x 1080p FHD+ display with the BYD Sealion 7, which is quite a decent resolution for a car display. It is sharp and you see no signs of pixellation or rough edges anywhere on the display or in any menu. Even video playback on this display is quite an experience and if supported natively, video playback on this display, paired with the 12-speaker Dynaudio speaker setup will make for a very immersive viewing experience.
BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display User Interface – 3.5/5
This is where the BYD Sealion 7’s infotainment display scores the lowest. Although this is a well-thought out UI, it doesn’t feel very premium and the fact that some essential controls like seat ventilation are still only accessible through the display are the main reasons we are reducing 1.5 points from the UI. Not taking away from the fact that the BYD user interface has some very unique and useful features. For example, I loved using the split screen window if not in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as it offers you the option to have media controls on one side of the display and air conditioner controls on the other side. Apart from this, the gesture controls for climate control are useful and work really well with the BYD Sealion 7.

BYD Sealion 7 Sound System – 4/5
The BYD Sealion 7’s 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system is a genuine highlight, delivering a balanced, well-rounded audio signature that doesn’t overemphasize bass or treble at the cost of clarity. What elevates the experience further is the cabin’s excellent noise isolation — outside chatter and road noise are kept well at bay, letting every layer of a track come through cleanly. Vocals sit crisp and upfront, instrumentation feels spacious, and even at higher volumes, there’s no distortion creeping in. For an EV in this segment, this is one of the more premium-feeling audio setups you’ll experience.
BYD Sealion 7 Infotainment Display – Final Score
So on an average, the BYD Sealion 7’s infotainment system scores a very high 4.5 points out of 5, making it one of the best-performing infotainment display that we have tested so far, second only to the BMW X5, which costs more than double the BYD Sealion 7. The rotating feature is a good party trick, but not very functional as it doesn’t support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in vertical orientation. It is bright, it is sharp, and it is super responsive. All of that with a 15.6-inch size is a recipe for a winner. However, the look and feel of the UI and the essential touch-based controls make the experience feel slightly less premium.
