After the Galaxy S24 series launch, Samsung fans are talking about the next-generation foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Recent rumors suggest the Fold 6 will have a revamped design with a different aspect ratio. Further, the Flip 6 is expected to ship with a larger battery than the Flip 5. Now, a tipster claims the Fold 6 could borrow one feature from the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Z Fold 6 Could Borrow Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Primary Sensor

Tipster @Tech_Reve claims the company is considering using the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP primary sensor on the Fold 6. Recently leaked renders showcase the phone with a different form factor. Given that the phone must undergo some internal changes to reach the design, the company can manage a larger battery or camera sensor.

“There’s talk of equipping the Fold6 with the same camera sensor as the S24 Ultra instead of decreasing the battery capacity,” says @Tech_Reve on X. However, it looks like the tipster meant to say, “increasing the battery capacity.” Although, will the 200MP camera benefit the Galaxy Z Fold 6?

Will The 200MP Camera Benefit The Z Fold 6?

On the one hand, the 200MP primary sensor on the Fold 6 sounds like a significant upgrade from the 50MP primary sensor on the Fold 5. The increased resolution could result in more detailed and sharp images. However, a camera review by Android Authority suggests that the S24 Ultra isn’t as good at clicking pictures of moving subjects, such as humans or pets, as it does of stationary subjects.

Hence, the 200MP sensor could also bring this issue to Fold 6. Nonetheless, users should take this information with a pinch of salt, given that most rumors indicate the presence of the old 50MP primary camera on the upcoming foldable. Further, Samsung seems to have a conservative approach toward the camera systems on its foldables.

Samsung’s Foldables Have A Lot To Catch Up In The Camera Department

Currently, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 features a 50MP (f/1.8, 23mm) primary sensor, with a 12MP (f/2.2, 123-degree) ultrawide sensor and a 10MP (f/2.4, 3x) optical zoom lens. Although this camera setup is good, it might run behind the competition.

For instance, the Pixel Fold revealed last year has a 10.8MP (f/3.1, 112mm) telephoto sensor that provides 5x optical zoom. The OnePlus Open ships with two 48MP sensors and one 64MP sensor that provides up to 3x optical zoom. Hence, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could use a camera upgrade, but we’re not sure what approach the company will adopt to achieve that.
