Samsung seems to be in an experimental mood with its current flagship smartphone lineup. The South Korean phone maker just announced the Galaxy Z Fold6 SE (Special Edition) a couple of days ago, and now there’s news of a new special edition phone. According to a report, Samsung has reportedly started working on a “Slim” version of its upcoming Galaxy S25 flagship.

Galaxy S25 Slim Based on SE Formula

This report comes from the Korean publication ETNews, which quotes industry insiders saying that the “Slim” version will focus on being thinner. Samsung will reportedly use this phone to gauge the response to a slim, high-end phone. If it receives a positive reception, Samsung may change the Galaxy S26 lineup to include a slim version.

Traditionally, Samsung has opted to launch three variants: base, Plus, and Ultra, under the Galaxy S series. This new Slim variant would be the fourth option and will reportedly be offered in “small quantities,” with a likely release around April, three months after the S25 series launch.

Apple coming up with Slim iPhone

Apple iPhone 17 Slim

The news of the Galaxy S25 Slim comes amid rumors about Apple working on a “Slim” variant under the iPhone 17 series, which is set to replace the iPhone 17 Plus next year. This Slim iPhone will reportedly have a 6.55-inch display, a single rear camera, and be made of aluminum instead of titanium.

But are thinner phones what consumers really want? Smartphone makers seem to think so, but only time will tell if these phones are well-received in the market.
