Reliance Jio Refutes Airtel’s Claims of Being India’s Fastest Network, Drags Ookla To ASCI Court

0

Emerging Indian telecom giant, Reliance Jio has denied broadband testing company Ookla’s claims that Bharti Airtel is the fastest network in the country and lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) regarding the same.

Ookla had rated Airtel to be the best (for data networking) in the country in its finding that brought out to the world at the start of this month, but has clearly failed to please the Mukesh Ambani-led company with its antics.

The company has been calling the Airtel advertisement, that is being aired after the findings came to the fore, to be ‘false’ and ‘misleading’.

Now, the company has sent a legal notice to Ookla too, in addition to sending a formal letter of complaint to the ASCI (also called the watchdog in advertising), of which the IANS also has a copy.

Jio further attacked Ookla by stating that is not even accredited by the Indian govt. and is not the ‘not for profit’ company that it claims to be, and said, “It charges money for its services used by telecom companies for their internal consumption, and charges additional consideration” for awarding certificates “that may be used by such companies for external consumption, marketing and publicity”.

In its defense, Airtel (through a spokesperson) had this to say, “Airtel has been rated as India’s fastest mobile network by Ookla – the global leader in broadband testing and web-based network diagnostic applications.”

“This is clearly mentioned in the advertisement. Ookla’s findings are based on analysis of millions of Internet speed tests logged on ‘modern devices’ by mobile customers across India using its popular speed test app. The results include all mobile tests, regardless of connection technology”
