Redmi Note 5 Pro Android 8.1 Oreo Update Adds Dual SIM Dual VoLTE, Gestures, and More

At the time of launch, the Redmi Note 5 Pro (Review) was running Android Nougat based MIUI 9. This was a problem because Xiaomi doesn’t have a very good record when it comes to version updates. The company promptly provides MIUI updates but usually keeps people waiting for version upgrades.

Fortunately, things are changing for the better.

Xiaomi has started pushing Android 8.1 Oreo (with MIUI 9.5) to its best selling Redmi Note 5 Pro. The update will tag along several important features including dual SIM dual VoLTE support, April securtity patch, Project treble support, and navigation gestures.

This should help Redmi Note 5 Pro match up to challengers like Oppo Realme 1 and Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Xiaomi has also added Mi video and Mi Music apps with content integration that it recently introduced in India.

However, not everybody will have access to the new software starting today.

The update version is MIUI 9.5.11.0.OEIMIFA and it is 193MB in size. It is currently available only for users who upgraded to MIUI Global Stable 9.5.6.0 update last week. Some users are reporting that Dual VoLTE isn’t working for them. A wider stable update rollout should follow soon.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch MIUI 10 alongside its next flagship, the Mi 8, on May 31. The new MIUI version is also expected to make it to the Redmi Note 5 Pro sooner or later.
