The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Redmi just launched one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in India: the Redmi A4 5G. With a massive screen, capable processor, and 5G connectivity, the handset presents a strong case for itself. However, does it have what it takes to beat the Galaxy A14 5G, which has ruled the segment for over a year? Let’s find out in this detailed comparison.

Although both phones have a tear-drop notch at the front with relatively thicker bezels than what we see on mid-rangers or flagship smartphones, the Redmi A4 5G looks a tad more fancy. On the back, the Redmi A4 5G has a circular camera cutout (with a textured finish), while the Galaxy A14 5G has three individual lens protrusions.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A14 5G has a slightly smaller 6.6-inch FHD+ LCD screen that supports 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500 nits. The resolution, however, is much better than that on the Redmi A4 5G: 2,408 x 1,080 (400 ppi).

Under the hood, the Redmi A4 5G runs on the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC, which features two 2.0GHz performance cores and six 1.8GHx efficient cores. The processor is based on 4nm fabrication technology, resulting in lower power consumption than most models in the segment.
Alongside the processor, the phone comes with 4GB of memory and up to 128GB of storage space. For reference, the processor scores around 840 and 1,910 points in the single- and multi-core performance tests on GeekBench 6.
The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G features the Exynos 1330 SoC, which has two 2.4GHz performance cores and six 2.0GHz efficient cores. Besides, the processor is based on 5nm manufacturing technology, making it slightly less efficient than the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 on the Redmi A4 5G.
However, the phone features the same memory (4GB) and storage variants (64GB and 128GB) as its rival. Interestingly, the Exynos 1330 performs better on the benchmark, scoring 929 and 2,128 points on the single- and multi-core GeekBench 6 tests.

Out of the box, the Redmi A4 5G runs on the HyperOS skin based on Android 14. The company has promised to provide two years of operating system updates and four years of security updates. In other words, the phone should easily last up to 2028.
Samsung released the Galaxy A14 5G in 2023 with One UI Core 5 based on Android 13 and promised two major operating system upgrades and four security updates. Hence, One UI Core 7, based on Android 15, will be the last software update that the phone will get.

The Redmi A4 5G sports a 5,160 mAh battery that supports 18W wired charging. Even the Galaxy A14 5G has a similar 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15W wired charging. Buyers should expect both phones to provide similar battery life on a single charge.

The Redmi A4 5G supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.4, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C 2.0 port. Thanks to the modem on the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC, the smartphone supports standalone sub-6GHz 5G and provides peak download speed of up to 1 Gbps.
The Galaxy A14 5G, which belongs to the same segment, also provides dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS, NFT, FM Radio connectivity, and a USB Type-C 2.0 port for transferring data and charging. With the Exynos 1330 SoC, the smartphone supports 5G over sub-6GHz frequency and provides up to 2.55Gbps download speeds.
