Realme Pad Mini Review: Design
The Realme Pad Mini variant that was loaned to us for review purposes comes in Grey color. The design of the tablet is better than what we were expecting from a tablet that is priced at around Rs 10,000. The Tab is made of plastic as well as metal which gives it a good overall look. The rear panel is made of metal, with edges of aluminum with only slight top and bottom portions of the rear panel being made of plastic. The tablet has a matte finish which makes sure it doesn’t smudge easily. It is very sleek (7.6mm) which makes it look even more attractive.
The rear panel has an 8MP camera on the top side and Realme branding at the bottom. At the front is an 8.7-inch screen that looks huge surrounded by thick bezels at top and bottom. The bezels on the sides are thinner.
The right edge has a power button and volume rockers whereas the left edge houses a SIM tray slot for LTE connectivity. The bottom edge has a USB Type-C port, microphone, and one speaker grille whereas the 2nd speaker can be found on the top edge along with an audio jack.
Considering the pricing of Realme Pad Mini, its design is really very good. It gives a good feel in hand as well.
Realme Pad Mini-Review: Display
Realme Pad Mini comes with an 8.7-inch WXGA+ LCD display with 1340×800 pixel resolution. It has only 360 nits peak brightness which works fine indoors but legality is not great in outside sunlight.
The colors look nice to a certain extent but the visuals are not sharp as offer HD+ resolution. The tablet is decent for everyday tasks, regular social media browsing, and watching content on the go. While only HD+ resolution may sound a little underwhelming, the price of the product also has to be kept in mind while assessing the product.
Overall, I feel a person buys a tab in this price segment because of the big screen to watch the content or small business and stores to feed data, conducting door to door surveys. In this regard, the Realme Pad Mini screen serves its purpose.
Realme Pad Mini-Review: Performance
The Realme Pad Mini is powered by an octa-core Unisoc T616 processor which is mostly found in lower-priced, entry-level devices. It has 2 Cortex A75 cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz and rests 6 Cortex A55 cores with a clock speed of 1.8GHz. It has up to 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 64GB UFS 2.1 storage. The tablet is powered by Mali G57 GPU as well.
If you are performing any daily activity like browsing social media or reading an article on this tablet, then it worked without hiccups. It managed to load apps quickly without taking too much time. Switching between apps was also smooth. The problem only arises when you ask it to run games or heavy apps as it is not designed to do so. The Unisoc CPU is clearly not meant for gaming.
Coming to the software, Realme Pad Mini runs Android 11 with Realme UI for Pad. There is hardly any difference between Realme UI for Pad and smartphones. The software has been optimized for large screens and limited CPU resources. The Realme UI is present on the Tab Mini clean with no bloatware (might be due to CPU limitations).
Realme Pad Mini-Review: Camera
Cameras have never been really in priority for tablet manufacturers. That remains true for Realme Pad Mini as well. Realme has packed a single 8MP camera on the rear end of its Pad Mini. The camera gives a decent performance in good daylight but images clicked in low light lack details.
At the front is a 5MP selfie camera which doesn’t give very good selfies but this can be ignored considering the price of the tablet.
Realme Pad Mini-Review: Battery
Realme Pad Mini packs a 6400mAh battery which has long battery life. Post being fully charged, the battery lasts for almost 2 days when used as a secondary device (moderate usage). But if you want to use it as a primary device with SIM, then the battery will last for about 1.5 days which is good.
The Tablet comes with an 18W charger inside the box. The charger takes about 2 hours to charge the tablet from 0 to 100%.
Realme Pad Mini-Review Verdict: Should you buy it?
Realme Pad Mini comes in the 10k price range category. With this tablet, Realme intends to establish itself in lower budget tablet market just like it has done in the affordable smartphone market. Although a tablet at such a low price is possible only when some specs get downgraded Realme somehow has managed to put out a decent tablet with a decent screen and performance.
Realme Pad Mini performs day-to-day tasks with ease and is very affordable with a good battery backing it up. But if you are someone who is looking for a higher performance device with an FHD+ screen then Realme Pad Mini is not the one for you.
