Oppo Reno is Official with SD855,10x zoom and in-display fingerprint sensor in China

Oppo has unveiled its long-anticipated Reno series at an event in China. It has launched a standard edition and a 10x Optical Hybrid zoom variant. The phones feature a peculiar  Side-lifting camera pop-up that Oppo calls Sharkfin design. Oppo Reno series comes with Oppo’s proprietary Wallet support that works on NFC technology.

Oppo Reno standard edition is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. It ships with 6GB / 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage and a 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with 256GB (UFS 2.1) storage.

Oppo Reno packs a 3765mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. This base variant also bears heat-conducting gel and graphite sheet to dissipate heat.

Upfront, it sports a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protected 6.4-inch panoramic AMOLED display that comes with a 2340 × 1080 Full HD+ pixel resolution and 19:5:9 aspect ratio. It even has an embedded in-display fingerprint scanner.

A side-lifting pop-up atop houses a 16MP front camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and 79.3-degree wide angle lens. The rear camera department features a 48MP rear camera with LED flash, Sony IMX586 sensor (f/1.7 aperture) coupled with a 5MP secondary camera (f/2.4 aperture).

Other important features include a Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C.

Next up we have a  10x Hybrid Optical Zoom variant and as evident from the name, the main highlight would be its optics. So, starting with the cameras, we have a 48MP(f/1.7 aperture) primary rear Sony IMX586 sensor with LED flash paired with a 13MP 10x hybrid optical zoom (f/3.0 aperture) periscope telephoto lens and an 8MP (f/2.2 aperture) 120-degree Ultra Wide Lens. The phone boasts 4K 60fps video recording with OIS support, audio zoom recording and 3D surround audio capturing.

Here also, a side-lifting pop-up at the top houses a 16MP front-facing camera with LED flash. Upfront we have a 6.6-inch panoramic Full HD+ (2340 × 1080 pixels) resolution screen with 19:5:9 aspect ratio. This one is also shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The software is Android 9.0 based ColorOS 6.0.

Under the hood, this one bears the power of Octa-Core Snapdragon 855 chipset. The internals include 6GB / 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage. The top model flaunts 8GB LPDDR4X RAM variant with 256GB (UFS 2.1) storage. The phone is kept alive by a 4065mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. This model uses copper tube liquid cooling.

Oppo Reno 10x Zoom variant also features USB Type-C audio, Hi-Res audio, Dolby Atmos, triple microphones, Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (2×2 MU-MIMO ), Bluetooth 5, Dual-frequency (L1+L5) GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, and NFC.

The standard edition is available in four colors viz. Purple, Pink, Green, and Black, while the 10x zoom variant is out in Black and Green color only. While you could buy the standard edition starting on April 16, the latter will go on sale mid-May.

The global launch is slated for April 24, which is just a few weeks away.  The company will also launch a 5G version next month.

Oppo has priced the standard edition pricing as follows:

  • 6+128GB model at 2999 yuan (US$ 446 / Rs. 30,895 approx.)
  • 6+256GB variant at 3299 yuan (US$ 491 / Rs. 33,985 approx.)
  • 8+256GB version at 3599 yuan (US$ 535 / Rs. 37,075 approx.)

Oppo has priced the 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom edition pricing as follows:

  • 6+128GB model at 3999 yuan (US$ 595 / Rs. 41,190 approx.)
  • 6+256GB variant at 4499 yuan (US$ 669 / Rs. 46,345 approx.)
  • 8+256GB edition at 4799 yuan (US$ 714 / Rs. 49,435 approx.)
