TL; DR
  • OPPO is said to replace the Alert Slider with an Action Button on the upcoming OPPO Find X8 Ultra.
  • For the phone itself, we’re expecting major camera upgrades, a Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 6,000 mAh battery, and a flat-screen.
  • The launch is expected to be in March.

OPPO is making a bold move with the Find X8 Ultra, replacing the beloved Alert Slider with a customizable Action Button, similar to what Apple introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro. While some users may appreciate the added flexibility, long-time fans of the Alert Slider might not be thrilled.

Following Apple’s Footsteps

As per Digital Chat Station, instead of the classic three-stage switch, the Find X8 Ultra will feature a click-based button that can be customized for various functions—like launching the camera, toggling silent mode, or opening apps, similar to Apple’s Action Button. This is a major shift with OPPO’s recent trend of adopting the Alert Slider on devices like the Find N3 Flip, Find N3, and Find X8 series.

Beyond this design change, the Find X8 Ultra is bringing serious upgrades. The camera setup includes a 50 MP LYT-900 (1-inch) main sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide IMX882 (1/1.95-inch), and an upgraded 3X periscope lens with a 50 MP IMX906 (1/1.56-inch) sensor.

The 6X periscope zoom gets a bump to a 50 MP IMX882 (1/1.95-inch), improving on the IMX858 (1/2.51-inch) from the Find X7 Ultra. Under the hood, it is expected to pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 6,000 mAh battery with 100W wired charging, a flat screen, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and an IP68/IP69 rating.

Launch timeline

The OPPO Find X8 Ultra is expected to launch in March alongside other flagship models.

Final thoughts

Swapping the Alert Slider for an action button is a controversial change—some users will love the customization, while others will miss the instant convenience of a physical switch. Whether this is an upgrade or a downgrade depends on how well OPPO implements it.
