Ola Electric is poised to kick off 2025 with the introduction of its next-generation e-scooters built on the Gen 3 Platform. Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO of Ola Electric, announced via a post on X that the official announcement is scheduled for tomorrow, January 31. This new platform is expected to greatly enhance the performance and efficiency of the e-scooters in comparison to the previous generation.
The Gen 3 platform was introduced in August 2024, boasting enhancements in reliability, quality, serviceability, and additional features. Initially, the release of the e-scooters was scheduled for August 2025; however, Ola has expedited the timeline, and these e-scooters are set to be available later this week. Ola Gen 3-based Electric Scooters

The launch is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 AM IST. The CEO’s announcement emphasizes that the new platform will exceed the capabilities of second-generation products regarding design, features, and performance. The teaser offers a glimpse of the scooter’s design, which resembles other offerings in Ola’s lineup, particularly the Ola S1 Pro.
The hub motor in the Gen 3 scooters is anticipated to improve, addressing previous quality concerns. Ola Electric asserts that it has resolved these issues by transitioning to a fully mid-mounted setup. This change is expected to lower costs and enhance quality. Additionally, the Gen 3 platform will provide a 20% reduction in points, resulting in cost savings.
The cost savings have been achieved through a revamped motor platform architecture that enhances power density while reducing expenses. The electronics platform has been overhauled to decrease the number of electronic control units (ECUs) and consolidate them onto a single board. Additionally, Ola Electric has modified the battery design by eliminating excess plastic layers. The company also plans to begin in-house production of several components that are currently sourced from external suppliers, aiming to further reduce factory-level costs.
