Xiaomi is streamlining its update program with putting a stop on its global MIUI beta update rollout. The new decision was announced on the MIUI community forum. The company states the counterintuitive usage of the beta program to be the cause of such a decision.

You might know that MIUI beta updates are released via two channels. Firstly, closed beta which releases more or less canary builds that are unstable and restricted to a limited number of testers. Next up, open beta which has mostly stable and close to the stable builds and open to the general public.

The beta updates are purposed to collect feedback regarding bugs and unstable performance. So, that they could be resolved for a smoother stable release. However, Xiaomi claims that the beta program harms the intent in two ways:

  • They are solely treated as a source for new features. They were hardly receiving any feedback from the users of the beta builds.
  • Moreover, the prime reason is pointed to be the bugs and issues with the beta builds that infests the user experience.

“As the MIUI experience has matured, the need for stability is becoming increasingly more important,” the company said in the forum post. “In order to meet the demands of most of our users and release stable version updates more frequently, our team of engineers has decided to stop releasing the global version of MIUI Beta for all devices starting July 1, 2019.”

Notably, this decision might not impact the Chinese iteration of MIUI that’s issued to its native users. And as for its global users, the company has assured timely security updates.
