NHAI Increases Toll Charges By Up To 5% Across National Highways And Expressways

If you’re a frequent commuter and you’ve experienced a toll price hike on national highways or expressways in the last few days, you’re not alone. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially announced a toll price increase of up to five percent, applicable on highway sections throughout the country.

Toll Fees On National Highways And Expressways Hiked By Up To 5%

On average, commuters will experience a price hike of up to five percent, with sections like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway or Ghaziabad-Meerut witnessing a hike from Rs. 165 to Rs. 170 and Rs. 75 from Rs. 70, respectively.

While these were just examples, commuters will also have to pay more on the highways and expressways built in other parts of the country, like those built around Lucknow, which connects Agra, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Barabanki, etc.

Further, there could be a difference between the price hike for passenger and commercial vehicles. Moreover, the rate of increase could vary depending on the state and highway, but in general, there’s a revision applicable across the country. In addition to the revision in toll prices, there’s also a revision in the monthly commuter pass fee.

The Toll Price Hike In Into Effect From April 2025

The revised toll rates are in effect from April 1, 2025. It is important to mention that a similar hike took place in June 2024. Hence, this is the second hike in less than a year. According to Press Trust of India, the toll price hike is a part of NHAI’s annual review process, which revises the rates based on the whole price index (with inflation).

Most recently, automakers in India have also announced a price hike applicable to all their vehicles. Starting in April 2025, buying a car has become around three to four percent more expensive in India. Check out more details about the price hikes here.
