The Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Moto has launched a new mid-ranger: the Moto Edge 50. While the handset offers excellent features under Rs. 30,000, there’s another smartphone that buyers might compare it with: the Galaxy F55 5G. At a similar price point, Samsung offers a better software experience, especially when it comes to the number of Android updates. So, which phones offer more value for your money? Let’s look at this detailed comparison.

Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Display
Out of the box, the Moto Edge 50 ships with a 6.7-inch 1.5K pOLED curved screen (20:9) with a pixel density of 446 ppi and support for 120Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness, per the official website, is 1,600 nits in HDR mode and 1,200 nits in high brightness mode, whereas the touch sampling rate can go up to 360Hz in gaming mode.
Moto Edge 50’s screen supports HDR10+ content, 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and 10-bit colors. Last but not least, it also features SGS Blue Light Reduction and Motion Blur Reduction certifications. There’s Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to safeguard the screen against daily wear and tear.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G flaunts a 6.7-inch flat screen (20:9) with a pixel density of 393 ppi and support for 120Hz refresh rate. Regarding brightness, the phone can only achieve 1,000 nits of peak brightness, which is slightly lower than that of the Moto Edge 50. However, that is all there is to the Galaxy F55 5G’s screen.
Hence, it is the Edge 50 that has a brighter and sharper screen.
Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Durability
Besides an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, the Moto Edge 50 passes the MIL-STD-810H standard. This means that the phone has been tested to work in harsh environmental conditions. While the phone has an aluminum frame, the rear panel is made of a silicone polymer, depending on the model you choose.
With the Galaxy F55 5G, things aren’t that straightforward. While some reports state that the phone ships with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, the official press release doesn’t mention that. Nonetheless, the phone features a plastic frame and a silicone polymer back.
Due to the lack of official details, we would have to say that the Moto Edge 50, at least on paper, is the more durable phone of the two.
Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Processor
Under the hood, the Moto Edge 50 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE (4nm) processor. It comprises a prime core clocked at 2.5GHz, three balanced cores at 2.36GHz, and four power-efficient cores at 1.8GHz. Accompanying the processor is the Adreno 644 GPU. Unfortunately, the phone comes in a single configuration with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
The Galaxy F55 5G, on the other hand, packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 (4nm) chipset. At first glance, one might confuse it to be the same processor as the Edge 50, but that’s not the case. The one in Moto’s smartphone is the “Accelerated Edition,” while the one on the F55 5G is the regular version, with a prime core clocked at 2.4GHz. The rest of the cluster is the same. Unlike the Edge 50, Samsung’s mid-ranger comes in three configurations: 8/128GB, 8/256GB, 12/256GB.
While the Edge 50 features a slightly more powerful chipset, the Galaxy F55 5G offers more flexibility in terms of the RAM and storage variants.

Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Cameras
The Moto Edge 50 features a triple camera setup, headlined by a 50MP (f/1.8, OIS) primary sensor. Then there’s a 10MP (f/2.0, OIS) telephoto sensor for 3x optical zoom and a 13MP (f/2.2, 120-degree) ultrawide sensor. On the front, users get a 32MP (f/2.4) selfie shooter. Both the primary camera and the selfie camera can shoot videos in 4K at 30 fps.
The Galaxy F55 5G ships with a 50MP (f/1.8, OIS) primary camera, an 8MP (f/2.3, 123-degree) ultrawide camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) macro camera. On the front, users get a 50MP (f/2.4) selfie shooter. Like the Moto Edge 50, the F55 5G can also shoot 4K videos at 30 fps. Given the former provides a telephoto camera, it makes for a more versatile camera setup.
To conclude, it is the telephoto camera on the Edge 50 that adds more value to the smartphone. Usually, a telephoto sensor is found on flagship cameras.
Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Battery & Charging
The Moto Edge 50 sports a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. With the wired charging speed, the phone charges from zero to 50% in about 15 minutes (as the brand advertises). What’s more is that you get the 68W fast charger in the box.
Similarly, the Galaxy F55 5G also packs a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t support wireless charging.
From what it looks like, both phones should provide a similar battery life, with users easily lasting for an entire day of moderate usage. However, those who want faster charging speeds would have to go with the Moto Edge 50.
Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Connectivity
Connectivity options on the Moto Edge 50 include Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0. While the other specifications are pretty standard, Wi-Fi 6e provides slightly better wireless bandwidth than Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6.
The Galaxy F55 5G, on the other hand, features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS, GALILEO, GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0 OTG.

Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Software Support
The Moto Edge 50 runs on Hello UI based on Android 14. Further, the company has promised to provide two years of software updates and three years of security patches, which isn’t quite as good as what one gets with the Samsung smartphone.
The Galaxy F55 5G runs on One UI 6.1, which is based on Android 14. According to the official press release, Samsung has promised to provide four generations of operating system upgrades and five years of security updates with the device.
While the Edge 50 offers a more stock Android-like UI, the F55 5G ships with One UI, which has a different layout altogether. Hence, this part of the comparison comes down to personal preference.
Moto Edge 50 Vs. Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: Price & Conclusion
Moto Edge 50 Price
- Moto Edge 50 (8/256GB): Rs. 27,999
The handset is available in three colors: Jungle Green, Koala Gray, and Pantone Peach Fuzz.
Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Price
- Galaxy F55 5G (8/128GB): Rs. 24,999
- Galaxy F55 5G (8/256GB): Rs. 27,999
- Galaxy F55 5G (12/256GB): Rs. 30,999
The handset is available in two colors: Apricot Crush and Raisin Black.
It is important to mention that these are the regular selling price of these smartphones, not the listing price (so that you have a better idea).
That said, Motorola seems to have a really good job packing in all the must-have and good-to-have features in its smartphone. Although Samsung offers better software support, it is the Moto Edge 30 that seems to offer more value at the same price (for the 8/256GB variant).
Even so, those coming from a Samsung smartphone could opt for the Galaxy F55 5G for a familiar UI experience.
