At the Mobile World Congress 2024, MediaTek announced the T300 platform, a 5G RedCap RF SoC built for IoT solutions. The chipset features MediaTek’s M60 modem, significantly improving over the previous 4G solution. Moreover, the platform increases battery life in 5G devices while reducing the development time. Here’s everything you need to know about the MediaTek T300.

MediaTek T300 5G RedCap Platform Reduces Power Consumption

The MediaTek T300 chipset has a simplified antenna design integrated with RF, which improves the battery life of 5G devices. Paired with MediaTek’s M60 modem, the platform claims to reduce power consumption by up to 70 percent in 5G and 60 percent in 4G technologies. “This enables device manufacturers to increase energy sustainability in large device deployments across the IIoT, mobile market, security, logistics, and IoT edge devices.”

The platform provides downlink/uplink rates of up to 227/122 Mbps, bringing the benefits of 5G connectivity to NR power-constrained devices. Additionally, the platform also has an 800MHz CPU to ensure it is highly responsive in connecting with other devices and transferring the required data. At its core, the platform is 3GPP Release-17 standard-rated.

The official press release also mentions that the T300 features MediaTek’s UltraSave 4.0 technology to reduce power consumption significantly. On top of that, it comes with 5G NSA and 5G SA support to facilitate the transition to SA networks, along with support for LTE. It brings improved reliability with support for up to 256 QAM DL/UL and other technologies for low latency connections.

Last but not least, the platform also supports Dual SIM single active and network slicing features, which are essential to support various IoT applications. The company is collaborating with leading infrastructure and operator partners to connect to 5G SA networks successfully.

What Is MediaTek RedCap Technology?

For those catching up, RedCap is a technology developed by MediaTek that focuses on making the 5G network accessible to devices that operate on limited power and size. We’re talking about smart home devices like connected thermostats, security cameras, air conditioning systems, etc. Moreover, the new chipset helps them leverage the 5G technology.
