We witnessed the launch of Realme U1, the first smartphone boasting MediaTek Helio P70 just a couple of days back (In fact, the Realme U1 is yet to hit retail shelves). But MediaTek seems to have no plans of slowing down as they are already ready with their next-in-line Helio P90 mobile platform. MediaTek took to Twitter to tease the launch of their next SoC.

MediaTek Helio P90 Improvements

According to MediaTek, the Helio P90 will be more powerful, more power efficient, and will support groundbreaking AI computation power. It is expected that Helio P90 will be the company’s next flagship chipset for mid-range and affordable smartphones. Helio P70 was not a significant upgrade from the earlier P60 and was designed on the same 12nm process. As of now, we do not have any idea about the process node on which this new chipset is going to be manufactured. But since it is aimed at the mid-range segment, MediaTek is likely to continue with the 12nm process.

Helio P70 integrated Mediatek’s NeuroPilot program, that provides support to edge AI. This NeuroPilot platform also implements common AI frameworks like TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe, Caffe2 and custom third-party offerings. The P70’s AI engine was touted to deliver a 10 to 30 percent increase in AI processing capabilities compared to Helio P60. Now, with MediaTek’s promising groundbreaking AI features in the new Helio P90, we can assume that the company is trying to push its limits pertaining to the AI capabilities in the mid-range chipsets.

Same as Helio P80 sited on benchmarks?

Recently, MediaTek’s Helio P80 surfaced on benchmark sites and the alleged scores pitched it as a chipset upcoming Snapdragon 8150 chipset. This could be the same chipset rechristened as P90.

Helio P90 is slated to release on December 13 at an event in China and we might expect to see phones employing the Helio P90 sometime mid-2019.
