After weeks of anticipation, Apple has quietly unveiled the new MacBook Air models with the latest Apple M3 chip, a solid upgrade over its predecessor, the Apple M2. Both the MacBook Air 13” and 15” have been upgraded with the all-new Apple M3 chip that was announced last year with the MacBook Pro M3.
MacBook Air M3 Details
An improvement over its predecessor, the M3 boasts better hardware acceleration, efficiency, and more capabilities. The base Apple M3 chip, which uses an 8-core CPU with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, is the brains of the MacBook Air M3.
The laptop’s graphics capabilities are further enhanced by the addition of an up to 10-core GPU, which delivers smooth and detailed graphics. M3 also brings support for hardware accelerated ray tracing and AV1 decode engine for better and more efficient video streaming.
Apple has also included software features like Voice Isolation and wide-spectrum microphone modes for improved voice clarity during calls. Additionally, both the new MacBook Air sizes now support up to two external displays. The rest of the computer remains identical to its predecessors.
The MacBook Air M3 offers memory options of up to 24 GB of unified memory, with the base storage remaining at 8 GB. Additionally, users also have the option to configure these laptops with up to 2 TB of SSD storage, though the base storage remains at 256 GB.
Moving on to the display, True Tone technology and 500 nits of brightness make for a viewing experience on the 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch Liquid Retina displays. Both displays are running at 60 Hz. For video calls, there’s a 1080p webcam inside the notch.
The MacBook Air 13” has a four-speaker audio system while its elder sibling, the MacBook Air 15”, has a six-speaker audio system for an immersive audio experience. Both laptops have a 3.5mm audio jack and support for Touch ID, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. The battery life remains the same at 18 hours for both sizes.
