TL;DR

  • Most recently, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra appeared on the GeekBench 6 benchmark.
  • In the past, we’ve seen how the top-tier Samsung smartphones ship with a “for Galaxy” variant of the latest Qualcomm chipset.
  • Even though the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy offers a higher clock speed for the prime cores, the GeekBench 6 performance scores are similar to that of the regular variant.

It’s January 2025, and smartphone enthusiasts around the world are closely observing the Korean giant Samsung. After winning several accolades for itself in 2024, the Galaxy S series is about to return with new hardware and software features. Ahead of the expected event in January 2025, a GeekBench listing has revealed (and sort of confirmed) the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Elite special edition version on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Most recently, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra appeared on the GeekBench 6 benchmark. As expected, the smartphone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, but unlike the regular chipset, the handset seems to have an overclocked version.

In the past, we’ve seen how the top-tier Samsung smartphones ship with a “for Galaxy” variant of the latest Qualcomm chipset. This variant usually features a higher clock speed for the prime core. However, in the case of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the “for Galaxy” variant features two prime cores with higher frequencies.

Difference Between Regular And “For Galaxy” Snapdragon 8 Elite Variant

According to the GeekBench 6 listing we talked about earlier, the Snapdragon 8 Elite on Samsung’s upcoming Ultra smartphone will chip with two prime cores clocked at 4.47GHz. The regular chipset variant, on the other hand, has two 4.32GHz prime cores. Moreover, there seems to be a difference of 0.15GHz between the regular and the “for Galaxy” variant of the chipset.

The rest of the performance cores (six, to be exact) remain at 3.53 GHz. With slightly improved prime cores, the “Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy” chipset scores 3,049 and 9,793 points in the single- and multi-core performance test. For those wondering, the device has 12GB of RAM and runs on the Android 15 operating system.

Even though the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy offers a higher clock speed for the prime cores, the GeekBench 6 performance scores are similar to that of the regular variant, which is a bit odd. Nonetheless, more details about the chipset and the Galaxy S25 Ultra series should surface on the internet in the coming days, as the Galaxy Unpacked January event will soon take place.
