While we are still months away from the iPhone 16 launch, rumors about the iPhone 17 have already started surfacing the web. Ross Young, a display expert, shares that the iPhone 17 Plus could have a smaller display than the current iPhone 15 Plus.

The current iPhone 15 Plus has a display size of 6.7 inches, which is the exact same size as the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s display. One distinction between the two displays is the refresh rate—the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a refresh rate of 120 Hz while the Plus settles for 60 Hz.

Another rumor suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature larger displays compared to their predecessors. It’s rumored that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max will sport a 6.9-inch display, each 0.2 inches larger than the current models. And if you are wondering, there is no increase in the size of the Vanilla and the Plus models of the iPhone 16.

It’s also worth noting that Apple’s strategy with the “Plus” models has been to offer larger-screen iPhones at a more affordable price point. This move has been well-received by consumers looking for a bigger display without the higher price tag of the Pro Max model.

Here’s a summary of the display sizes of iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and the iPhone 17 lineup.

iPhone 15 Lineup

  • iPhone 15: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 15 Plus: 6.7-inch
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 6.7-inch

iPhone 16 Lineup

  • iPhone 16: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 6.7-inch
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 6.3-inch
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 6.9-inch

iPhone 17 Lineup

  • iPhone 17: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 17 Plus: < 6.7-inch
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch

Nevertheless, it’s important to take these rumors with a grain of salt. Apple’s plans can change, and official details about the iPhone 17 are likely to emerge closer to its launch date.
