Apple’s iPhone 15 launch happened just a month back and the rumor mill is already abuzz with speculations about the iPhone 16 series which will make its debut in 2024. While some early rumors hinted at larger screen sizes, recent reports have shed light on potential design changes and features in the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models.

The latest MacRumors report suggests Apple will be making some tweaks in the design of the iPhone 16 line-up including iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Here’s everything that we know so far:

Rumored Screen Size Increase

The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to sport a 6.3-inch display, slightly larger than its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro, which featured a 6.2-inch screen. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to get an even bigger bump with a 6.9-inch display, which is nearly identical to the current iPhone 15 Pro Max’s screen size. This increase in screen real estate is believed to provide more room for new features and enhancements.

Size and Weight Comparison

Recent information obtained by MacRumors reveals that the base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models will remain largely unchanged in terms of design, with minor exceptions. These models will be approximately 2 grams heavier than their iPhone 15 counterparts, suggesting potential internal upgrades. Both iPhone 16 models are also expected to feature a redesigned rear camera setup with two vertical lenses, reminiscent of the iPhone 12 series. Additionally, these iPhones will introduce two capacitive buttons, the Action and Capture buttons, for enhanced user functionality.

In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to see a modest increase in size, approximately 3 mm taller and less than 0.9 mm wider compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to weigh 194 grams, an increase of 7 grams from its predecessor, while the next-gen Pro Max will be only about 4 grams heavier than the current Pro Max.

While the reasons for these changes are still speculative, some experts suggest that the inclusion of a tetraprism lens in the iPhone 16 Pro models could account for the increased weight. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s weight already takes this into account. However, these details remain speculative at this stage.

Thinner Bezels for Larger Screens

The rumored screen size increases align with earlier reports, and they may be made possible by thinner bezels, a feature introduced in this year’s iPhone 15 Pro models. These slimmer bezels could allow Apple to expand the screen sizes without significantly enlarging the overall device dimensions.

Potential for Improved Cooling

One unforeseen benefit of the larger iPhones could be improved cooling capabilities. The extra internal space created by the size increase might enable Apple to enhance the cooling systems in the iPhone 16 Pro models compared to their predecessors. This would be particularly relevant for users who engage in resource-intensive tasks on their devices.

It’s essential to emphasize that these details are still based on rumors and leaks and may not represent the final design of the iPhone 16 series. As production is not slated to begin until next summer, there is ample time for changes and refinements. Nonetheless, these insights into the potential changes in size and features are generating excitement among Apple enthusiasts who are eagerly anticipating the release of the iPhone 16 series in 2024.
