Finally, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are here. This year, Apple has a lot in store for us, including the new A18 Pro chip that offers best-in-class performance and efficiency, along with faster 5G and wireless connectivity speeds. The iPhone 16 Pro models are available in two new colors and feature the thinnest bezels on a smartphone to date. They are available on the company’s website to pre-order and will start shipping later next week.

iPhone 16 Pro And iPhone 16 Pro Max Design

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max retain the signature design language of Apple’s Pro iPhones. They feature Dynamic Island on the front with astonishingly thin symmetrical bezels and a square-shaped camera module on the back panel that houses three sensors. Besides, the models have a Titanium frame but with two new colors: Desert Titanium and White Titanium. The other two colors are Black Titanium and Natural Titanium.

When compared to their predecessors, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are significantly taller and wider. With the increased dimensions, the iPhones also feature a slightly bigger display (which we’ll talk about in a bit). Further, the phones weigh slightly more as well, but not to the extent that they feel too heavy. For those wondering, the iPhone 16 Pro weighs 199 grams, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams.

Like the other models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. As mentioned in our article on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, both the Pro models also get the new Camera Control button, which is situated on the same side as the power button. Further, the new iPhone models also feature a thinner and more efficient MagSafe magnets setup.

iPhone 16 Pro And iPhone 16 Pro Max Specifications And Features

Screen

As mentioned earlier, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max feature a slightly larger screen than what we’ve seen on the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro, for instance, has a 6.3-inch screen as compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 6.1-inch screen. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro Max flaunts a 6.9-inch screen, which is significantly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch screen. Both phones support ProMotion technology (up to 120Hz refresh rate) and can achieve a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a minium brightness of 1 nit.

Another astounding improvement on the Pro iPhones is their bezels. The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max have the world’s thinnest bezels on a smartphone, which makes us excited and worried at the same time. While we’re excited to see how wafer-thin bezels look in real life, we’re also concerned about the repair costs the iPhone users might have to incur in case of accidental damage.

Nonetheless, both the Pro iPhones look absolutely phenomenal, so we’ve to give that to Apple.

Performance

The iPhone 16 Pro models feature Apple’s most powerful smartphone processor to date: the A18 Pro. When compared to the regular A18 chip, the A18 Pro has more GPU cores. However, both the chips feature a new Neural Processing Unit or NPU, which facilitates the on-device GenAI features. The A18 Pro chipset is not just more efficient than its predecessor, the A17 Pro, but it is also more powerful and capable in all possible aspects, making the iPhone 16 Pro a performance beast.

With the new processor, all the iPhone 16 models ship with a new thermal mechanism that prevents overheating while charging or during heavy workloads. Like the regular models, the Pro models also run on 8GB of RAM. However, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple has increased the baseline storage for the iPhone 16 Pro to 256GB. Those who want more storage can check out the 512GB and 1TB storage variants. The Pro models also come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, which provides faster 5G connectivity.

Cameras

While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max retail their primary 48MP (f/1.78) sensor, there are a few changes to the other sensors. Both models now feature a new 48MP (f/2.2) ultrawide sensor that adds more details to the shots. Further, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 12MP (f/2.8) 5x optical zoom sensor is now available on the iPhone 16 Pro. On the front, both iPhones feature a 12MP (f/1.9) selfie shooter.

Other upgrades include the ability to record 4K videos at up to 120 frames per second, something that should come in handy, especially for professional videographers who rely on an iPhone. While the other features remain similar to the predecessor, the Camera Control button is something that should complement the hardware on the Pro iPhones. Introduced with the iPhone 16 series, the Camera Control button lets users open the Camera app and act as a shutter button (like on professional cameras).

Battery

Unlike the regular iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max support 40W wired and 20W MagSafe charging. With stacked battery technology and a new stainless steel casing that ensures higher energy density, the batteries on the iPhone 16 Pro models are rated to last longer than the ones on their predecessors. We’re looking at around 27 hours of video playback from the smaller iPhone 16 Pro and about 33 hours from the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Connectivity

Unlike the iPhone 15 Pro series, the iPhone 16 Pro models come with Wi-Fi 7 for faster wireless communication. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth v5.4, GPS (L1 + L5), GLONASS, NFC, and a faster USB Type-C Gen 2 port that supports both power delivery and data transfer.

Software

The iPhone 16 Pro models support Apple Intelligence with iOS 18. So it would all the rewriting, proofreading features related to text and image and emoji generation features.
