In a recent tweet by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, it has been suggested that Instagram, the popular social media platform owned by Meta, may be entering the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) with the development of its own AI chatbot. The purpose of this chatbot is expected to make conversations on Instagram “more fun and engaging,” potentially giving competition to Snapchat’s MyAI bot. While specific details are yet to be confirmed, Paluzzi’s findings offer insights into what the future might hold for Instagram users.

Through a reverse-engineering of Instagram’s code, Paluzzi discovered indications of an upcoming AI chatbot feature. According to the attached screenshot, this chatbot will possess the ability to answer questions, provide advice, and even assist users in crafting messages. Moreover, individuals will have the option to choose from 30 distinct AI personalities, enabling them to find a chatbot that resonates with their preferences.

At present, the exact integration method of Instagram’s AI chatbot remains undisclosed. Several questions linger, such as which AI tools will Instagram employ to power the chatbot? Is it likely to utilize OpenAI’s ChatGPT? What generative AI capabilities will it possess? Additionally, Meta’s plans for leveraging the AI chatbot to benefit Creators and Businesses, as well as the security and privacy measures in place, have yet to be unveiled. These important details are anticipated to be clarified in due course.

Snapchat took the lead in the AI chatbot arena with the launch of its MyAI chatbot. Although its initial implementation received mixed reviews due to some questionable responses, Snapchat has since refined its MyAI chatbot, and currently, users do not require a Snapchat+ subscription to access the GPT-4 powered chatbot.

Considering the potential introduction of Instagram’s AI chatbot, it is crucial for Meta to conduct extensive testing before an official public rollout. Similar to Snapchat’s experience, there is room for both success and missteps. Therefore, ensuring the chatbot’s reliability and effectiveness will be essential for user satisfaction.

As of now, this development should be taken with caution until more concrete or official information is made available. Stay tuned as we continue to report the latest developments.
