The Hyundai Bayon was launched in India yesterday at a starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It sits below the Creta and above the Venue, and it goes straight up against the Tata Curvv, both in terms of the size, price, and where it sits in its respective manufacturer’s lineup. So let us put the Hyundai Bayon against its most obvious competitor in the market and see which of these two is better suited for what kind of buyer.
Hyundai Bayon vs Tata Curvv: Prices and Variants
The Hyundai Bayon has been launched in seven trims: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10. Hyundai’s introductory pricing starts at ₹9.99 lakh, which is the ex-showroom price for the base HX2 variant. Out of these seven trims, four variants ranging from the HX5 to the HX10 are available in both manual and automatic transmission options, making for a total of 11 variants for the Bayon.

The Tata Curvv (ICE), on the other hand, offers 42 variants across petrol and diesel engines and a manual or automatic transmission combination. Its Smart base trim starts at around ₹9.76 lakh (ex-showroom), and the top variants go up to roughly Rs 19 lakh. The base variant of the Tata Curvv is cheaper by ₹20,000.

| Hyundai Bayon | Tata Curvv (ICE) | |
| Starting price (ex-showroom) | ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) | Rs 9.76 lakh (ex-showroom) |
| Top price | ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) | ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom) |
The Curvv’s entry price is slightly lower, while the Hyundai Bayon’s top-end variant is cheaper by about a lakh. Pretty significant at this price point.

| Fuel tank | 43 litres | 44 litres |
The two are almost identical in size. The Curvv is longer overall, but the Bayon has the longer wheelbase, which should help rear-seat room. Boot space is a near tie at around 500 litres.
Hyundai Bayon vs Tata Curvv: Engines and Gearboxes
The Hyundai Bayon has been launched with just one engine, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol making 115hp and 144Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual or an iVT automatic, which Hyundai claims returns 18.6kpl (ARAI). A CNG version will follow in early 2027.

The Tata Curvv offers a lot more choices. A 120hp, 170Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol is the base engine, and a 125hp, 225Nm Hyperion direct-injection turbo-petrol sits above it. There’s also a 118hp 1.5-litre diesel. All three come with a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is available on each of the variants, including the diesel.

| Hyundai Bayon | Tata Curvv | |
| Engine | 1.5L NA petrol | 1.2L turbo-petrol, 1.2L Hyperion turbo-petrol, 1.5L diesel |
| Power | 115hp | 120hp / 125hp / 118hp |

| Gearbox | 6MT, iVT | 6MT, 7DCA |
| Claimed mileage | 18.6kpl (iVT) | 17 to 23kpl, by engine |
Here also, the Tata Curvv offers more engine and transmission options. For the mile munchers, there is the diesel, while for those who want performance within their city driving, there’s the turbo petrol.

Hyundai Bayon vs Tata Curvv: Interior and Features

The Hyundai Bayon is the more tech-forward of the two. It gets dual 12.3-inch displays – a 12.3-inch infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Bose audio system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a powered driver’s seat. Outside, it has LED projector headlights, pull-type door handles and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Tata Curvv’s cabin is largely carried over from the Tata Nexon, with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a fully digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and reclining rear seats. In terms of features, the Hyundai Bayon offers more features, and in my opinion, these features will also work much better than Tata.
Hyundai Bayon vs Tata Curvv: Safety
Both come with six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, disc brakes on all four wheels, ESC, TPMS, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold. Hyundai’s Level 2 ADAS suite has 23 functions, three radars and 12 parking sensors. The Hyundai Bayon’s crash rating wasn’t available at launch, while the Tata Curvv has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Hyundai Bayon vs Tata Curvv: Which one should you buy?
Buy the Hyundai Bayon if you want the more tech-forward, cleaner cabin and Hyundai’s reputation for easy ownership. It makes sense if you drive mostly in the city and you value smooth, relaxed driving over outright pace. The upcoming CNG version will also appeal to cost-conscious buyers.
Buy the Tata Curvv if you want more options, a turbo-petrol or diesel engine, and a body style that stands out from the crowd. In terms of safety the Tata Curvv will eventually turn out to have the edge, but the overall experience of owning a Tata is nothing short of frustrating.
