Spam calls and messages are a concern on WhatsApp as people have started receiving them often. These spammers know how to trick innocent users disguised as employees from banks or other places and they have several hundred tricks in the box to lure users.
Meta-owned WhatsApp recently launched a filter that scans through calls you are receiving on the app and blocks the ones coming from ‘unknown sources’.
The feature works by blocking the ringing of calls when you receive one from an unknown number. You can still check details about the caller in the ‘Calls’ tab but there the phone won’t ring when such calls arrive. If you think the caller is legit or someone you know, you can easily call back. However, you do need to know that once you call or message the said ‘unknown caller’ or someone you know but don’t want to receive calls from, the filter won’t block the incoming call from that person in the future even if the feature is active.
How to Silence Unknown Calls on WhatsApp?
Here’s how you can silence unknown calls on WhatsApp on both Android and iOS devices.
Step #1: Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone or Android device.
Step #2: Navigate to Settings using the three dots option in the top-right corner.
Step #3:Proceed to ‘Privacy >> Calls’.
Step #4: Toggle to enable ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ and that’s it.
Note: In case if you can’t see this option, go to App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and update WhatsApp.
