Apple just released the first developer beta of iOS 18.1, finally giving users a glimpse of Apple Intelligence. The suite of AI-based features includes several features, such as content generation, summarization, contextual awareness for Siri, etc. However, there’s one addition in iOS 18 that might have gone unnoticed, and it’s a new power button in the Control Center.
Out of all things, iPhone users often complain about the process involved in shutting the phone down. While holding the side button doesn’t invoke the power menu, there are a few rather lengthy ways to switch off an iPhone. However, with the new button in the Control Center, shutting down an iPhone has become as easy as enabling Wi-Fi or adjusting the phone’s brightness.

Here’s How You Can Shut Down Your iPhone UsinG The Control Center
Before we go ahead and explain the steps involved in shutting down an iPhone through the Control Center, it is important to mention that we have access to the new virtual button on the first public beta of iOS 18. Whether this will make it to the final version is something that will unfold in the future.
- With a version of iOS 18, swipe down from the top right corner to open the Control Center.
- Now, press and hold on the power button at the top right corner and release when you feel a slight vibration (or what Apple likes to call haptic feedback). It appears as a small icon above the music playback widget.
- The power menu will appear on the screen, with the option to drag a slider to the right and power off the iPhone and a cancel button toward the bottom.
- If you drag the slider, your phone will shut down. However, if you choose the cancel button (or leave the screen untouched for a few seconds), the phone will redirect you to the lock screen, asking for Face ID or passcode.

In my opinion, this method is slightly more convenient as it allows me to shut down the iPhone without having to spare the other hand to hold the buttons on both sides.
