How To Create or Recover Aadhaar Virtual ID Number

0

UIDAI has been working to solve the privacy issue of Aadhaar and, as the first step, the agency rolled out a new ‘Virtual ID’ feature. It is said to work on top of your Aadhaar and keep your personal details hidden and secure.

In Virtual ID, you create a temporary 16-digit number that is synced to your Aadhaar card in the background. Once that is done, all your verification or authentication is done through that number, thus eliminating the risk of revealing your full Aadhaar information.

The ID that is generated has a validity of just one day, i.e. 24hrs, and after that, it will automatically expire. So here’s how you can create a Virtual ID for your Aadhaar and prevent privacy breach.

*Note: A registered mobile number is required to complete the process.

Step 1: Head over to UIDAI website – www.uidai.gov.in.

Step 2: Then, click on the ‘Virtual ID (VID) Generator’ option – under the ‘Aadhaar services’ section.

Step 3: Clicking on it, a new UIDAI webpage will open. Feed your 12-digit Aadhaar number along with the ‘CAPTCHA’ code shown inside the box, and click on “Send OTP”.

Step 4: A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered Aadhaar mobile number.

Step 5: Fill-in the OTP in the box given on the right-hand side of the screen. After this, you can either click on ‘Generate VID’ or ‘Retrieve VID’ based on your need. Once done, click on ‘Submit’.

Step 6: The screen will show the message that the virtual ID has been generated/retrieved successfully and has been sent as a message to your linked mobile number.
