If you were hoping the leaked Pixel 11 pricing was an error, a Google executive has now made it fairly clear that it isn’t. Shakil Barkat, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, confirmed in an interview with 9to5Google that “adjustments” are coming to Pixel pricing. Of course, they’re driven by a sustained (and severe) spike in memory costs, and Google says it can no longer continue to absorb them.

Pixel 11 Could See A $100 Price Hike
Early retail leaks have already pointed to the Pixel 11 starting at $899, a $100 jump over the Pixel 10’s $799 base price. While Barkat stopped short of confirming exact figures, his framing was unambiguous. Pricing will be “rolled out dynamically to match supply realities,” and the Pixel 11 series will be directly affected.

The more unexpected element of the interview is what it signals for existing Pixel hardware. Barkat hinted that “in-market Pixel phones” may also see price revisions, suggesting the Pixel 10a’s (review) current $499 base price could be revised upward as well.

In my opinion, that is a meaningful concern for buyers who were counting on the budget Pixel smartphone as a more accessible entry point into Google’s clean Android ecosystem.
Barkat did offer two partial assurances. Google intends to continue promoting purchases through trade-ins, promotions, and bundle deals. Furthermore, the company is also actively working to make Android more memory-efficient, potentially reducing how much RAM future devices need.

However, commanding a premium price for flagships with less memory and Tensor’s relatively lower peak performance capability might not be the best idea. For now, the Pixel 11 series is expected to be unveiled at the Made by Google event on August 12.
