Samsung is introducing a new wider foldable called the Galaxy Z Fold8. This model features a shorter and wider design compared to the standard Z Fold series, giving it a more tablet-like experience when unfolded. The device is being developed as a distinct variant to offer users a different form factor, particularly for media consumption and productivity. Let’s take a look at everything we know about the Galaxy Z Fold8.
Naming

Samsung is reportedly changing its naming strategy for the 2026 foldable lineup. Multiple leaks suggest that the wider model will be called the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the taller model could be branded as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. However, it is still widely referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide in current reporting to distinguish it from the Ultra model.
Lightest Z Fold

The Z Fold8 Wide is expected to be the lightest model in the Galaxy Z Fold series. According to Ice Universe, Samsung has focused on weight reduction through material optimization and a refined internal structure. The Z Fold8 is expected to weigh around 201 grams, making it lighter than the Galaxy S26 Ultra and even some compact flagship phones like the OnePlus 15T.
Thickness
Dummy units of the Z Fold8 Wide show it measuring approximately 4.3 mm thick when unfolded. This would make it one of the thinnest foldables Samsung has developed. Unfolded, the Z Fold8 is expected to measure 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.3 mm, while its folded dimensions are said to be 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8 mm.
Crease Improvement

Samsung is using a thicker 60-micron Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) layer on the Z Fold8 Wide, up from the 45-micron layer used in recent models. According to tipster Ice Universe, this upgrade is expected to bring crease visibility close to the current industry benchmark, the OPPO Find N6.
Design

The Z Fold8 Wide has a distinctly different design from regular Z Fold models. It is shorter in height and significantly wider when unfolded, resulting in a more square shape. Dummy units leaked by Sonny Dickson show flat edges and a premium metal frame. It also appears to feature a dual-camera setup similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Display
The device is expected to feature an inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it wider than previous Z Fold models. The cover display is also said to use a wider aspect ratio (reported to be around 4.7:3). Both displays are expected to support 120 Hz refresh rates and up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness. The cover display is said to offer a pixel density of 432 PPI, while the main display is expected to feature 403 PPI.

Performance
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and paired with 12 GB of RAM. Storage options are likely to start at 256 GB and go up to 512 GB, similar to recent flagship foldables. Samsung may or may not include a vapor chamber.
Battery

Contrary to previous reports, Ice Universe suggests the Galaxy Z Fold8 will feature a 4,800 mAh battery. That is 400 mAh more than the 4,400 mAh battery found in the Galaxy Z Fold7. The device is also expected to support 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. Support for Qi2 remains unclear at this stage.
Cameras

The Z Fold8 is expected to feature a simplified rear camera setup compared to the Ultra model. Ice Universe suggests it may use a dual-camera system consisting of a 50 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera instead of a triple-camera setup. The phone is also expected to support Samsung’s native 24 MP photo mode.
S Pen Support
It is currently unclear whether the Z Fold8 will support the S Pen. Previous Z Fold models supported the S Pen on the inner display, but Samsung removed support with the Fold7 in favor of a thinner design. In all likelihood, Samsung will not bring back S Pen support on the Fold8.
Software

The device is expected to launch with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16. Samsung is likely to optimize the software experience for the wider inner display with improved multitasking, better app continuity, and productivity tools tailored to the new aspect ratio. It is also expected to ship with a range of new Galaxy AI features.
Durability
The Z Fold8 is expected to feature the same IP48 dust and water resistance rating as the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. Samsung is also reportedly working on improvements to the hinge mechanism for better long-term reliability.
Launch
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, in London. The device will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip8, and the Galaxy Watch9 series. Production reports suggest Samsung is preparing significant volumes of the Fold8, indicating that it will be a core part of the 2026 foldable lineup rather than a niche variant.
