Xiaomi isn’t just playing catch-up in the smartphone game—they’re setting the pace. We’ve just caught wind of some exciting news: Xiaomi is diving deep into custom chip design, but that’s not all. Thanks to a tip from well-known leaker chunvn8888, Smartprix has managed to get the details about their next big thing, a flagship device codenamed “Zhuque.”

A Revolutionary Design

What’s so special about Zhuque? Well, according to our source, this smartphone is different from existing smartphones as the device will have no physical buttons. Yes, you read that right—Xiaomi might finally deliver the true all-screen smartphone experience we’ve been hearing for a long. Since the project is said to be in its early stages, we’re not sure how it will be controlled. Zhuque could use a combination of gesture controls, pressure-sensitive edges, or even voice commands. If Xiaomi pulls this off, it could be a massive leap forward in smartphone design.

Another standout feature on Zhuque is the under-display selfie camera, a technology that has long been a dream for smartphone designers. We’ve seen attempts at this from Samsung and ZTE, but Xiaomi’s implementation on an all-screen phone could make it look even better.

Powerful Performance

Under the hood, Zhuque is expected to be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4 processor, codenamed SM8775. This same processor will also be used in the Xiaomi 15S Pro, expected in the second quarter of 2025. We don’t know much about the 8+ Gen 4 yet, but it’s likely based on the new Qryon cores, similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

While we don’t have details about the display, battery, or cameras, this leak gives us a glimpse into Xiaomi’s plans to shake up the flagship smartphone market. Things could change since the project is still early, but as of now, we might see this phone in the first half of 2025.

The Future of Flagship Smartphones

After hearing about Xiaomi’s plans, it’s clear are they are investing in R&D to develop new features. They’re working on a button-less smartphone (something even Apple is rumored to be developing), their own mobile processor, and even a tri-fold phone that could be released early next year.

In the past, Meizu attempted something similar with the Meizu Zero. It was a “hole-less” smartphone, technically hole-less, with no physical cutouts, not even for speakers or USB. Instead, it featured capacitive touch power and volume buttons.

The speaker was replaced by the screen, which vibrated to produce sound, and the USB charging port was swapped out for 18W wireless charging. While it was certainly innovative, it didn’t gain much popularity. Now, we’ll have to see how Xiaomi’s Project Zhuque will fare next year.

This story is still developing, and we’ll bring you more exclusive information on Project Zhuque in the coming weeks.
