Samsung’s push to defend its mid-range market share and underline its tech edge is becoming clearer with leaked software codes for the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57. Expectations surrounding both phones are already high, and the leaks suggest significant camera hardware upgrades, including larger sensors. More importantly, the configurations suggest Samsung is aiming for a real hardware upgrade, bringing a more flagship-like optical experience to the mid-range instead of leaning only on software tweaks.

The information we have suggests that every camera unit, from the main module to the secondary sensors, has been carefully selected, with a clear move toward larger sensors that capture more light. These leaks also reveal the strategic distribution between Sony and Samsung’s own ISOCELL sensors in the supply chain and highlight the parameters that directly shape the imaging capabilities of the new A series.

First Details About the Galaxy A57’s Camera Setup

The Galaxy A57’s camera setup leans heavily on higher-end hardware, particularly for the main and ultra-wide cameras. The main camera is a Sony IMX906, though some regions may get Samsung’s ISOCELL S5KGNJ instead. The ultra-wide camera uses a 13 MP ISOCELL S5K3L6, a sensor first seen on the Redmi K20 Pro (Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro) back in 2019. Rounding out the triple rear setup is a 5 MP macro camera using the GalaxyCore GC05A3 sensor.

The front camera is equipped with a 12 MP ISOCELL S5K3LC sensor. The configuration in the software code reveals that all these sensors are parameterized to work in full compatibility with the ISP inside the device.

More Affordable Galaxy A37’s Camera Details Are Also Here

The Galaxy A37 keeps the same main camera as the A57, but takes a different route with its secondary sensors. Software code points to an 8 MP GalaxyCore GC08A3 sensor for the ultra-wide camera, while the macro setup mirrors the A57 with a 5 MP GalaxyCore GC05A3 sensor.

The Galaxy A37’s front camera uses a 12 MP GalaxyCore GC12A2 sensor. The main camera will retain a 50 MP resolution, with Samsung expected to alternate between Sony and in-house sensors depending on the region.

Galaxy A37 Feature a Significantly Better Main Camera Sensor

  • Galaxy A37: 50MP IMX906 Main (S5KGNJ in some regions) + 8MP GC08A3 Ultra Wide + 5MP GC05A3 Macro
  • Galaxy A57: 50MP IMX906 Main (S5KGNJ in some regions) + 13MP S5K3L6 Ultra Wide + 5MP GC05A3 Macro

Specifications show that the Sony IMX906 uses a larger 1/1.56-inch optical format, up from the 1/1.95-inch IMX882 found in the Galaxy A36. This increase in sensor size boosts light intake at the hardware level, which should translate into better dynamic range and improved signal-to-noise performance.

Final Thoughts

The Galaxy A57 sets itself apart from the Galaxy A37’s 8 MP setup with a better 13 MP ultra-wide sensor. The use of ISOCELL on the front camera, instead of GalaxyCore, further widens the hardware gap between the two models and their positioning within the segment. That said, both devices moving to a larger 1/1.56-inch main sensor clearly signals Samsung’s intent to reset mid-range imaging standards through real optical hardware (which is surprising).

The leaks give a fairly detailed look at the camera setups via software parameters, but these configurations are still not final. Samsung could make changes before launch, potentially influenced by component and RAM pricing. For now, this information is based on Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 prototypes. We will update the article once the final details are confirmed.
