New Features Coming to Apple Watch Series in 2025
1. Satellite Connectivity

In 2025, at least one model from the Apple Watch series is expected to feature satellite connectivity. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is anticipated to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 17 series, will include this capability. This new functionality will enable users to send text messages via Globalstar Inc.’s satellite network, even in the absence of cellular service or WiFi.
Satellite texting was initially launched by Apple with the iPhone 14 series in 2022. This feature saw enhancements in 2023, enabling iPhone users to reach out to roadside assistance services. By 2024, Apple expanded this capability, allowing users to send satellite texts to anyone using iMessage. Looking ahead to 2025, Apple plans to introduce satellite connectivity in its upcoming Ultra smartwatch.
This addition will enhance the Watch Ultra 3, designed specifically for adventurers who explore the most remote locations. For those who enjoy trekking and may find themselves stranded in isolated areas without their iPhone, the Watch Ultra 3 will provide the ability to send messages via satellite, potentially serving as a crucial lifeline in emergencies.
2. Blood Pressure Monitors

In 2023, Apple introduced sleep apnea detection features in its Apple Watch models, significantly contributing to life-saving measures by recognizing and alerting users to this often overlooked condition. Now, in 2025, the technology company from Cupertino is preparing to incorporate high blood pressure detection into its smartwatch offerings. According to reports, Apple intends to include this feature in the upcoming Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
This monitor does not display your systolic or diastolic blood pressure readings; however, it continuously monitors these values and alerts the user if any irregularities are detected. Users will be notified when they experience hypertension, enabling them to take appropriate medication or seek medical attention.

3. Apple Watch SE 3 Refreshed Design

The budget-friendly Watch SE series will introduce a new model this year. The Apple Watch SE 3 is anticipated to be unveiled in 2025, featuring a completely redesigned look. It is expected to offer larger display options, with sizes of 41mm and 45mm, and a more streamlined design akin to the Series 10 set to release in 2024. Apple is likely to adopt a rigid plastic casing for the upcoming Watch SE model, which will be available in a wide range of colors.
4. 5G RedCap Network Access

Recent reports indicate that Apple is transitioning from Intel 4G chipsets to MediaTek 5G modems for its upcoming smartwatch models set to launch in 2025. This shift is expected to enhance data speeds for activities such as using Maps, streaming music, and making FaceTime audio calls.
If realized, this could mark MediaTek’s most significant collaboration with Apple to date, as the company plans to implement 5G RedCap, a specialized lower-speed 5G service tailored for IoT devices and wearables that typically do not require high-speed connections. While the speeds will not match those available on iPhones, the 5G RedCap modem is anticipated to provide download speeds of up to 220Mbps and upload speeds of up to 120Mbps, resulting in a more responsive experience for Apple Watch users.

5. AI-Based Coaching Service

Apple is developing an AI-driven health coaching service along with innovative technology aimed at monitoring users’ emotions. This initiative, referred to as Quartz, is designed to encourage users to maintain their exercise routines, enhance their dietary choices, and improve their sleep quality. In an era where mental and emotional well-being is increasingly recognized as vital alongside physical health, this service could be particularly beneficial for individuals facing mental health challenges.
Apple plans to develop personalized coaching programs utilizing AI and data collected from its smartwatch. According to Gurman, this service is expected to launch in 2025, although it may face cancellation or delays based on the outcomes of internal testing. This offering will be a subscription-based service that integrates with Apple Fitness Plus, Apple Intelligence, and the Training Load Feature. It will be available on all new Apple Watch models released this year.
6. All-New Health App

Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple plans to overhaul the Health App in 2025. The company has dedicated significant efforts to enhancing its health application over the past few years, and this initiative is set to persist into 2025. Further updates regarding this development are anticipated in the upcoming months.
