Asus Zenfone 7, an upcoming phone which is likely to debut in India as Asus 7z, is the latest victim of online specs leaks. That’s right, the Asus Zenfone 7 key specifications have appeared on the web before the 7 series launch on August 26. Asus is expected to announce Zenfone 7 Pro and Zenfone 7 next week.

Reameizu – a Japanese tech website, claims to have spotted key specifications of the Zenfone 7 inside the recently released Asus ROG Phone 3 kernel source. Asus last launched its ROG Phone 3 (review) globally last month.

As per the website, the Zenfone 7 is all set to debut with a 6.4-inch BOE-made LCD screen with a Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. If that’s the case, Asus will be one of the rare brands to be offering its flagship with a 60Hz screen in 2020. Having said that, it is quite possible that Asus offers the higher refresh rate screen with Pro/Ultra/ Plus model (whichever moniker it decides to use).

Asus Zenfone 7 (aka Asus 7z) Specifications based on the leak

While digging up the kernel source, they found that ZS670KS which is the code name of Zenfone 7, uses the standard S865 chip which is in line with various previous rumors. The Asus 7z kernel has a marking for Fast Connect 6800 which is there in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset while the higher binned Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset comes with Fast Connect 6900 technology. Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is likely to come with the SD865+ So.

Asus 6z (review) which debuted last year came with an LCD screen. The leak confirms that Asus has no plans to change it this year. This also means no in-display fingerprint sensor in Zenfone 7. Going back to the information picked up from the kernel source code, the Zenfone 7 is likely to include a Goodix gf3626 sensor that was used on Honor X10 as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Asus is also going to support a microSD card for media expansion on the Zenfone 7.

If you are wondering what happened to the flip camera, well rumor indicates that Asus is to continue with the same design. The Zenfone 7 is rumored to include a triple camera setup fitted on a motorized flip module. It is likely to include a 64MP Sony IMX686 as a primary sensor coupled with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 3D ToF sensor.
