At the “Wonderlust” event on September 12, 2023, Apple should unveil the new Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Although both smartwatches will reportedly look identical to their predecessors, they could feature a new optical heart rate sensor for improvements in accuracy. Further, we’re also expecting the new smartwatches to offer other internal upgrades. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming smartwatches from Apple.

New Apple Watches To Look Like Their Predecessors

According to the latest report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will get new materials and colors. This year, enthusiasts might see the Watch Ultra in a new black variant. The Apple Watch Series 9 will be available in 41mm and 45mm, while the second generation Watch Ultra sticks with the 49mm size.

Watch Series 9 And Watch Ultra 2 To Ship With New Processor

Although the watches will resemble their predecessors in aesthetics, they will ship with a significant performance boost with a new chip, which could be the S9 chip. Currently, the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Watch Ultra run on the S8 chip, similar to that on Watch 6 from 2020. With the new chip, the smartwatches will get several internal components upgraded, focusing on increasing the speed, accuracy, and overall efficiency.

Besides the new optical heart rate sensor, the latest Apple Watches will ship with the U2 ultrawide-band chip for better Find My capabilities. The Series 9 could also come with 3D-printed device cases with stainless steel models. Recently, Apple discounted the leather watch bands by up to 90%, indicating that the company will either discontinue or update them.
