As Apple is gearing up for its big launch this fall aka the Apple iPhone 15 series, the tech giant will have to buffer against the various delays its parts manufacturers are projecting this year. Last year, Samsung Display took a major share of iPhone 14’s OLED shipments and much more than LD Display, Apple’s second-largest display manufacturer. However, some complications on Samsung’s part could stop the display maker from achieving its full potential this year.

Turns out LG Display got conditional approval to produce panels for two pro devices while BOE will be handling the two non-Pro models. As Apple has decided to introduce Dynamic Island across all the iPhone 15 models, BOE is finding it difficult to get the display hole required for the dynamic island. LG Display too is facing similar issues that could delay production which of course, translates into delayed shipments.

Another set of delays could be because of both 48MP sensors and periscope sensors that Apple iPhone 15 series will be getting their hands on. LG Innotek will be supplying the periscope sensors for the first time and with problems related to the actuators, the shipment is falling behind expectations.

Pro models have been outselling non-Pro models for 2-3 years now of which, Pro models take a share of 50-60%. Apple is currently prioritizing the production of Pro models compared to Pro Max since the latter is facing production disruptions as well.

Lastly, we have issues with iPhone 15 Pros displays with slim bezels. Turns out LG Display is facing production issues implementing thin bezels on its displays as well. Last year, Samsung took a 10 million units order from LG Display as the latter met with setbacks. It remains to see how the production issues pan out at LG Display.

For what it is worth, although Apple is unlikely to delay the launch of its esteemed flagship iPhone 15 series, availability of some models may not be available by the end of this year.
