While Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 Series in January, Apple recently dropped the iPhone 15 Series globally. This makes the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max (both top-end flagship models) lock horns trying to prove that one has an edge over the other. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by Apple’s new A17 Pro Bionic chipset, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Both the chipsets are super fast and offer excellent efficiency.

While the Apple A17 Pro Bionic chipset is a beast based on the 3nm manufacturing process it will be able to beat the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 remains to be seen. This is because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 posted better results than the A16 Bionic chipset that powered the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year.

If we talk about the Geekbench scores, iPhone 15 Pro Max managed 2846 single-core points and a 7024 multi-core score. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has received 1878 single-core score and a 4974 multi-core score. While Geekbench scores indicate better performance of iPhone 15 Pro Max, real world performance remains to be seen.

So until we actually get to know about the real-world performance of the A17 Pro Bionic chipset, we can’t say which one has an edge over the other in terms of performance.

Display is one such area where Samsung mostly excels, but this time Apple might give a tough fight to Samsung in terms of display panels. iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with Apple’s ProMotion technology. It has a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 3088×1440 pixel resolution. It has a 500 PPI density and HDR10 support.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a titanium frame, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has an aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Both have Always on Displays.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a triple camera setup at the back. It includes a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens with a new 5x optical zoom capability. At the front is a 12MP selfie camera.

Talking about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, there is a quad camera setup which means it has 4 sensors on the back as opposed to three on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 200MP main camera with 30x zoom capability, two 10MP telephoto lenses, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. At the front is a 12MP sensor for selfies.

While the selfie camera is similar, Samsung offers 4 cameras at the back instead of Apple’s 3 rear sensors. In terms of camera performance, both these flagships are expected to be neck to neck.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra packs a 5000mAh battery under the hood with 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max packs a non-removable battery that claims to last all day. The iPhone can wirelessly charge at a maximum of 15W. It is expected to charge your iPhone to 50% in 30 minutes and takes 90 minutes to charge it completely.

In terms of battery and charging, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has an edge over the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Being flagship devices, both these smartphones are expensive. Apple’s top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the 256GB variant and costs Rs. 1,79,900 for the 512GB model and Rs. 1,99,900 for the 1TB model. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra starts at Rs. 1,24,999 for the 12GB+256GB model, Rs. 1,34,999 for the 12GB+512GB model, and Rs. 1,54,999 for the 12GB+1TB model.

Galaxy S23 Ultra is slightly cheaper than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
