Apple is rolling out its biggest Sneaky Sasquatch update yet, adding a major crossover and a new gameplay feature. It aims to keep Arcade subscribers interested as Netflix Games and Google Play Pass ramp up competition.
Today, Apple confirmed the Subway Surfers+ collaboration is live and runs until October 7. The birdwatching feature, which adds over 30 species, arrives September 17. Apple says these moves follow Arcade’s struggle to keep users after the free trial. Now, the company is betting on limited-time events to boost engagement.
The crossover play: Why Subway Surfers+ makes strategic sense
Subway Surfers, made by Sybo, is one of the world’s most downloaded mobile games, with over 4 billion installs. By bringing its endless-runner action into Sneaky Sasquatch, Apple gives Arcade players a taste of fast-paced gameplay. At the same time, Surfers fans now have a reason to check out Arcade.

The crossover is live now and runs through October 7. Here’s what you get:
- Four character skins blend the look of Sasquatch Valley with Subway Surfers’ streetwear.
- The running track swaps city streets for Sasquatch Valley forests, giving the game a Pacific Northwest feel.
- Raccoon coins replace the usual gold, tying progress to the event’s own economy.
- A ranger disguise gives the security guard a new look, overturning the game’s usual antagonist role.
Timed events like this can help keep players coming back. By setting a clear end date, Apple creates urgency. That push may help people play longer and return more often.
Birdwatching: A permanent expansion for the completionist crowd
Even though the crossover is temporary, the birdwatching update is designed to last. It launches on September 17 and adds a full birdwatching system. Players get rewards for exploring and snapping photos. This adds even more depth on top of its career-switching features.
- Better photos earn better rewards. The game looks at composition, bird clarity, and species rarity.
Bonus triggers for maximum scoring:
- The species encountered is rare.
- This is the first time it has been seen, so the game adds an entry to the database. This update puts birdwatching alongside skiing, car racing, and even the medical career path. It’s a calm, non-competitive activity that keeps players coming back and adds to the game’s average playtime.
New iMessage stickers: A low-friction social hook
For Sneaky Sasquatch’s anniversary, Apple added 11 new iMessage stickers to the pack. These stickers show more expressions and campground themes. They may help build brand loyalty and spread the word when people share them in chats.
