If you think all gallery apps are pretty much the same, think again. The HyperOS Gallery app is packed with features you probably didn’t even know were there. If you have a Xiaomi, POCO, or a Redmi phone, then this article is for you. Let’s explore some of the best hidden features this app has to offer.

1. Say Goodbye to Google Photos Hassles

We’ve all been there—waiting for Google Photos to load just to find that one picture. With HyperOS Gallery’s photo backup integration, those headaches are history:

  • Tap on the three-dot menu, go to Settings, and enable Google Photos backup.
  • Sign in using your Google and Xiaomi accounts, then toggle Download automatically.

This pulls in all your cloud-stored photos, so you can view them without needing an internet connection. It’s a useful feature if you’ve got a phone with tons of storage—no more waiting, no more worrying about being offline.

2. Bokeh and Depth Mapping

If you’re the kind of person who likes to fine-tune every photo, the Bokeh effect in the HyperOS Gallery is going to be your new best friend:

  • Tap on the Pencil icon to enter the Edit menu, then select Bokeh under Create.
  • Adjust the blur from 0 to 100, or even play around with different types of background effects.

3. Transform the Sky—Literally

Ever look at a photo and think, “If only the sky looked cooler”? The Sky Replacement feature lets you do exactly that:

  • Tap on the Pencil icon to enter the Edit menu, then select Sky under Create.
  • You can select from a variety of skies like Sunny, Dynamic, Cloudy, or even a dramatic Milky Way.
  • The app can even add matching audio effects for some edits. Yes, it’s that extra.

4. Cutout: Snip and Done

We’ve had this feature for years but no one seems to be using it. Why? It’s probably because it’s not that accessible. Anyway, this allows you to separate the subject from the background or even replace the background with something totally different.

  • Tap the three dots, select Cutout, and pick any photo. You can also do this by pressing and holding on any photo and selecting Creativity > Cutout.
  • Remove the background or replace it with something unique from your own gallery.

5. Artistic Filters That Aren’t Just Gimmicks

The Art feature is similar to Cutout except there’s no cutout happening. It basically allows you to edit your photo’s background without altering the subject much. It’s perfect for when you want to give your photos a bit of flair:

  • Tap the three dots, select Art, and pick any photo. You can also do this by pressing and holding on any photo and selecting Creativity > Art.
  • Go for a Low Poly look if you’re into geometric aesthetics, or try Etching for that artsy black-and-white effect. There’s even Frosted Glass and Sketch options.

6. A Video Editor That’s Actually Useful

Not only does the HyperOS Gallery handle photos, but it also packs a fairly good video editor. And no, I’m not talking about the basic video editor that you get after pressing Edit on a video. I’m talking about the Pro video editor.

  • Go to Edit and tap on Pro.
  • Then, tap on Switch.
  • Here, you can trim and crop videos, resize them, add additional video clips, adjust the brightness and effects, add or remove audio, and do a lot more.

7. Privacy Protection: Because Not Everything Needs to Be Shared

Last but not least, the Privacy Protection feature is very helpful. This removes all those hidden details like location and metadata from your photos, keeping your private information private.

  • Before sending a photo, tap on Privacy Protection at the top and toggle Share without metadata and Share without location info.

8. Protective Watermark

If you quickly want to add a watermark to your photos, simply open that photo, tap on the three dots at the bottom right, and select Protective watermark. Now, enter your watermark text and the watermark will be applied to the photo.

The Verdict

The HyperOS Gallery app has several features packed in. It isn’t merely a photo viewing app but also a good photo and video editor. Hopefully, these features will help you leverage the HyperOS Gallery app on your Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO phone even more.
