- Since 2021, the MacBook Air models have followed a minimal yet functional design language, and we expect the M4 MacBook Air to be no different.
- Under its shiny exterior with the classic Apple mascot, the 2025 MacBook Air will feature the all-new M4 chip. We’ve already seen the chip on devices like the baseline MacBook Pro (14-inch) and the thinnest iPad Pro ever.
- With the increased tariff on imported products in the United States (imposed by the newly-elected president), there’s a good chance that the M4 MacBook Air could be more expensive than the current model.
Apple has already upgraded the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac lineup with its new baseline chip, the M4 silicon. However, the company doesn’t have a M4 MacBook Air on sale (yet). Well, that could change soon, as multiple sources indicated an imminent launch of a new baseline MacBook Air with improved processing performance and efficiency than the previous generation. So, without any further ado, here’s everything we know about the M4 MacBook Air.
M4 MacBook Air Release Date (Expected)

Although Apple hasn’t confirmed anything, the new M4 MacBook Air is expected to come out sometime in March 2025. This comes from renowned Apple analyst and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. In one of his newsletters, Gurman mentioned how the new MacBook Air will arrive about a year after the M3 MacBook Air models.
For those catching up, the M3-powered MacBook Air models hit the market in March 2024. Most recently, Gurman mentioned that the 2025 MacBook Air lineup (with 13 and 15-inch models) is already in production and could be released earlier than expected. All things considered, it looks like a new MacBook Air, powered by the M4 chip, is inevitable and could be released sometime soon.

M4 MacBook Air: Design
Since 2021, the MacBook Air models have followed a minimal yet functional design language, and we expect the M4 MacBook Air to be no different. Expect the classic MacBook traits, like a sturdy aluminum unibody chassis, three to four colors, a thin side profile, and only a few ports (two USB-C, one headphone jack, and one MagSafe).
The M4 MacBook Air is also likely to carry the notch at the top of the screen. Even though MacBook users remain divided on whether the notch looks good, it surely gives Apple’s notebook a familiar look. At least in terms of design, the M4 MacBook Air won’t be the most exciting update, but the M4 chip should indeed be a key selling point.
M4 MacBook Air: Specifications (Expected)

Regarding display, the M4 MacBook Air should feature the same LED-backlit screen based on IPS technology as the previous generation models (with a peak brightness of 500 nits).
Under its shiny exterior with the classic Apple mascot, the 2025 MacBook Air will feature the all-new M4 chip. We’ve already seen the chip on devices like the baseline MacBook Pro (14-inch) and the thinnest iPad Pro ever.
It’s worth mentioning that the M4 chip on the latest iPad Pro features a nine-core CPU, which seems to be a toned-down version of the 10-core CPU found on the M4 MacBook Pro.
That said, the one on the M4 MacBook Air should also come with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. For those catching up, the processor scores about 20% higher on the single-core and 26% higher on the multi-core GeekBench CPU performance test, which accounts for a significant performance bump.

Along with the capable CPU, the M4 MacBook Air should ship with 16GB of unified memory on the base model (as with other MacBook Air models), alongside 256GB of storage. Given that the M4 is more efficient than the M3, the new MacBook Air could also get a minor battery life boost (perhaps an additional hour of video playback).
Everything else, like the speakers, and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wired USB-C standards, should remain the same on the M4 MacBook Air. Like the M1, the M4-powered notebooks will also support Apple Intelligence.
M4 MacBook Air: Price (Expected)
With the increased tariff on imported products in the United States (imposed by the newly-elected president), there’s a good chance that the M4 MacBook Air could be more expensive than the current model.
The baseline M3 MacBook Air starts from Rs. 1,14,900 for the variant with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. However, the M4-powered MacBook Air could be around Rs. 5,000 to 10,000 more expensive.
In the end, readers should take the information in this article with a pinch of salt. More details about the device should surface soon.
