With declining sales and revenue in 2023, Apple looks forward to 2024 to bring things back on track. The company’s first major launch will be the mixed-reality headset Vision Pro, which is expected to hit stores by the end of January. On paper, it is one of the most innovative gadgets ever made. However, the real question is whether Vision Pro will be the breakthrough product Apple is hoping it will be. However, that is just one of many challenges the company faces.

iPhones Will Take Back Seat In 2024, Other Products To Occupy Center Stage

Apple to bring Generative AI to all its devices as soon as next year

Back in December, Gurman reported how Apple will shift its focus from the iPhone, its star product, to all the other devices that haven’t been performing that well. However, the company’s wearables, including the new Vision Pro, Apple Watch, and AirPods, will take center stage and receive major upgrades. In a new report, Gurman highlights the challenges the company will face in 2024, and the list isn’t short.

Expect To See Generative AI Features In IOS 18 During WWDC 2024

First, Apple “remains years behind in the competition in generative artificial intelligence,” making it fall short of advancements by Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, and Google. These companies already have some or the other AI-based products that are out in the market or about to debut soon. Apple plans to announce its AI-based products and services at the Worldwide Developers Conference as part of iOS 18.

Apple’s Large Language Model, Ajax, Should Make An Appearance Too

The company is working on its large language model dubbed Ajax, which has been under development and testing since early last year. Apart from the LLM, Apple plans to integrate summarizing and auto-complete features into its core productivity apps like Pages and Keynote. Apple Music should also get a big piece for better playlist generation. Siri, the voice assistant, should also get a significant overhaul with AI.

Samsung To Get A Nine-Month Headsstart With Galaxy S24

Meanwhile, the company’s biggest rival, Samsung, is about to reveal the Galaxy S24 series, loaded with AI-based features, on January 17, 2024, roughly nine months before Apple’s generative AI features make their way to users with the public release of iOS 18 and iPhone 16. Other challenges include improving the smartwatch lineup to include new sensors that don’t infringe any patents and improving the AirPods and iPad lineups to boost sales.

Vision Pro To Make A Strong, Nation-Wide Debut In The United States

Apple Vision Pro to get a lighter successor

That said, Apple seems to have a solid line of action to tackle all these challenges. The company is already training its store employees about using Vision Pro and shipping the retail units to outlets across the United States. Regarding the Apple Watch ban, the company will hear from the customs agency whether or not the software fix bypasses the patent infringement. On January 15, the company will engage with the Court of Appeals.

iOS 18 And iPhone 16 To Follow

iPhone 16 Pro Mockups Features a Capture Button

As mentioned earlier, Apple will showcase the iOS 18 during the WWDC 2024, which is expected in June. Three months later, enthusiasts will see the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, rumors about which have already been doing rounds online. Apple should also drop the new AirPods and the Apple Watch at the event. In addition, we may also see another event in October, where the company could announce the next generation of MacBooks and iPads.
