Xiaomi unleashed the successor of its last year's Redmi 4 phone, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus on its home soil, China. Both these devices come with full-screen displays and a metal unibody design with smooth rounded corners. It is the innards that differentiate the two from each other.
Unlike its predecessor, the Redmi 5 Plus flaunts a 5.99-inch FHD+ near bezel less18:9 aspect ratio display on the front. The phone is powered by 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor alongside the Adreno 506 GPU. Once again the device will be available in two RAM and storage variants. The base variant employs 3GB RAM and 32GB storage whereas the top variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage.
For shutterbugs, the Redmi 5 Plus features a 12MP rear camera with 1.25-micron pixels whereas, up front, it packs a 5MP selfie camera with Beautify 3.0 features. The handset runs on Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 out of the box and is powered by a 4000mAh non-removable battery.
In terms of connectivity, the dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB OTG, and FM. Sensors on the phone include Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope. The fingerprint sensor is on the rear panel below the camera.
The Redmi 5 Plus is currently launched in China where its two variant has been priced at CNY 999 (roughly to Rs. 9,800 INR) and CNY 1299 (roughly to Rs 12,700 INR), accordingly.
