If you wanted to buy a 'Galaxy Note', now is your chance!
I have been a flagship phone lover all my life. The premium aesthetics ad the polished feel of high end devices is something that even 2018 mid rangers are unable to fully deliver. That is exactly why people keep buying expensive products. Not just because they want to show it off (well, that too!) but because it often turns out to be a better experience overall. Owning a galaxy note device has always been a desire of mine. It was fulfilled when I managed to gather up enough to purchase the Note 8 this October. I was actually, planning to go for the Note 9, but decided to save my money and get the predecessor instead. Sure, the note 9 is a better device overall, but it does not justify paying 67k, whereas I got this one for only 28k after exchanging my old Galaxy S7. Here's a quick review of mine with pros and cons of using the Note 8 as a daily driver in 2018. Pros: --------- - Excellent build quality (premium and surprisingly comfortable in-hand feel) - Great display (as usual from Samsung) - Reliable set of rear cameras - The S-pen and all of its perks (duh!) - Still has a headphone jack! - An extra (bixby) button that you can easily remap however you want. - The vibration motor is much stronger than any other flagship I've owned in the past. (definitely one of the best android side has to offer) Cons: --------- - Not-so-stellar performance (I could not find major improvements over my 2 year old Galaxy S7!). It is pretty good, but nothing "OnePlus level". - Battery life is decent at best. I am averaging (at the maximum) up to 5 Hrs screen on time - I feel the speakers are weaker than my old S7. - Fingerprint sensor is sometimes pretty slow to wake the screen up after recognizing my finger from standby (It works very fast when the screen is on though, which is strange!) Also, the headphones that are bundles in the box are pretty trashy! They have a very flat frequency response, which will not appeal to most of the customers who enjoy rich, equalized music. I never expected Samsung to give such flat equalized pair with their newer devices, especially because the earphones that I got with my S7 were absolutely phenomenal in comparison. Some people said I have to manually equalize these AKG earphones first, but even after enabling Samsung 'adaptive sound', the output was straight up garbage. It is surely not an equalizer issue, because I am using PowerAmp Pro, which is THE BEST in my opinion. Anyway, these were my two cents on the great Galaxy Note 8, and regarding using one in 2018. Should you buy this phone? Absolutely! It is a great buy at it's current price, but I advise you to buy it with exchange offer, which makes it an even sweeter deal!
