Nextbit Robin Review, Price and Specifications

Nextbit's Robin isn't a conventional phone, no matter what way you look at it. This notion is explicitly clear the moment you hold it for the first time. Its a plastic phone, alright, but the quality of plastic used and design nuances make it feel classy. Perhaps classier than anything else we have come across in this price range in the past few months.

On the inside, the handset lists capable mid range hardware. There is hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset (same as the one used in LG G4), 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 100GB cloud storage, a well-calibrated 5.2 inch Full HD display, an adequate camera, fingerprint sensor and latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow based software.

The software is well optimized to ensure you don't run into performance hiccups, and helps robin integrate with the cloud securely. A much highlighted feature of Robin is Smart Storage. Basically, Smart Storage shifts apps you don't use frequently to the cloud. The app data remains on your phone, but the .apk file is deleted. That good save considerable space if you like experimenting with apps regularly. You get to decide what apps you permanently need on your phone, when the uploading should take place, and whether or not you want cloud connection to be terminated when you switch to mobile data. Based on how you use your phone, Smart storage could be liberating or a useless frill.

The Nextbit Robin has a lot to offer, and cloud or no cloud, it makes a solid case for itself at the price of 19,999 INR. You can buy Nextbit Robin online in India from Flipkart. read more →

Nextbit Robin Review

The Robin is a really good looking phone with promising backup features, but it's got a ways to go of it before it's ready to compete in the major leagues. read more →

  • Seriously cool design you won't see on any other smartphone
  • Backup abilities are promising and it's nice to know you have all that redundancy
  • Camera app is too barebones for the time being
  • Battery life is touch-and-go

Nextbit Robin

The Nextbit Robin's cloud storage feature isn't persuasive, but even without that it's a great value handset that stands out from the crowd. It's just a shame the battery doesn't last a bit longer. There's some serious talent behind the design of the Nextbit Robin: it was dreamt up by the man who created the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8. To my mind those are two of the most beautiful phones ever made - so when I first laid eyes on the Robin I have to admit to being a bit disappointed.

Nextbit Robin Review

The Nextbit Robin does suffer from a number of considerable issues I'm willing to attribute to the “start-up” status of its maker. There's noticeable response lag, the battery life isn't completely up to snuff, and the camera needs more work, but Nexbit seems willing to address these issues with upcoming updates. If it succeeds, this would make the Robin a great all-around smartphone – not just unique and attractive one.

The Robin is a great, inspiring start for Nextbit. read more →

  • Unique, attractive design
  • Innovative cloud storage implementation
  • Coherent, atmospheric user interface

Nextbit Robin Review

The Nextbit Robin makes a strong case as a newcomer to the smartphone world. We like the refreshing design - although bear in mind those odd lumps and bumps we've found on our review sample - and we like the clutter-free software approach.

Nextbit's cloud storage solution works well, although for all the positives we do keep coming back to the fact that you could easily add more local storage for little cost with microSD, and discard that whole aspect to this phone. read more →

  • Interesting design
  • Good camera
  • Nice display
  • Good spec for price
  • Free from software clutter
  • Some software oddities
  • The cloud side seems sort of pointless
  • No microSD
  • Some build quality concerns
