HTC Sensation XL review: Music and the beast
It's certainly nice to be able to choose between platforms. But while there aren't that many handsets to choose from in WP7 land, Androids come in all shapes and sizes.
It's not tablet-sized, but unlike actual tablets, theres always room in a pocket for the Sensation XL. And that screen is big enough for tasks like web browsing (the browser performance impressed us too) and reading texts.read more →

- Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
- 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- 4.7" 16M-color capacitive S-LCD touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
- Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.5
- 1.5 GHz single Scorpion CPUs, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset
- 768 MB RAM; 16 GB storage (~12.5GB user accessible)
- WVGA resolution is low for a 4.7" screen
- Screen's outdoor performance isn't so good
- No dedicated camera key
- No microSD card slot
- No TV-Out
HTC Sensation XL hands-on: First look
So ends our brief encounter with the HTC Sensation XL. We know it's too early to be passing any final verdicts, but our instincts tell us that this one won't be as successful as the Sensation XE.
But that's not because it's a bad device. On the contrary - we really like the big fella, but with a screen this size it will be rejected by many people as too large. Plus many will choose the future-proofing that the dual-core CPU inside the Sensation XE offers.read more →

HTC Sensation XL
The Sensation XL does plenty right, with an impressive screen and a strong web browsing performance. But, marketed as an audio champion, less than 13GB of storage is a joke.read more →
- Web browsing on the 4.7-inch screen is a joy
- The Beats headphones are substantial step above typical in-the-box fare
- Limited built-in storage with no option to expand
- Underwhelming video quality
- Short battery life
HTC's created a big Sensation with this 4.7-inch beast
Speaking of which, the price is the biggest stumbling block for Sensation XL as it stands. As a mid-range, big-screen handset, HTC would be onto a genuine winner here. But the price puts it in the firing line of the Sensation XE, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4S. And, frankly, it comes out at the bottom of that list.read more →

HTC Sensation XL Review
If you have larger hands, and are only looking at the hardware specs, you’ll think that you’ve finally found the fairly compact, slim and affordable Android handset with a huge screen you’ve been waiting for. Single-core chipset, average pixel density and lack of memory expansion slot should mean a 4.7” screen for the masses, but HTC doesn’t think so. It is priced as much as the high-ends with better (yet smaller) screens, and dual-core chipsets.read more →
- High-quality iBeats headphones
- Large 4.7” screen
- New HTC Sense 3.5 is more streamlined and runs great on the single-core chipset
- Same or higher price as models with better features
- Low-resolution screen, single-core processor and no memory card slot
- Mediocre camera and camcorder
- Power/lock and volume buttons are too flush with the surface, and with very shallow travel
