Great product

I was sceptical about this device and had more affinity towards Pocofone initially and had my research for almost a week suddenly Flipkart had this sale on December 26-29th and price dropped to 25k for 128gb variant. Which is deal breaker before new year so I had to drop the Pocofone, though it was available for 22k with 128gb it didn't get those stunning look comparing to 5z. Other points to pick Zenfone 5z- •Camera (Lowlight/landscape/Architecture) •Audio •Notch I wish it had powerful battery like Max Pro 2.

Great product

The Asus ZenFone 5Z - after 2 months: If you're looking for a short verdict - Just go for it. With negligible compromises from the OnePlus 6 (which I'll talk about later on this review) but also some sweet-additions to it, I believe this phone has truly *killed* the 'flagship-killer' this time :) 1. PACKAGING AND LOOKS: The phone comes with a considerably big package where they assert that "they ♥️ photo" and also flaunting about their design and audio-superiority that comes with the phone. It does come with a soft clear-case which has a ZenFone branding at the lower-right rim-corner of it AND last but not least - it *does* come with a hi-res ZenEar Pro earphones with a 18W QC3.0+ fast-charger inside (ahem, Apple tho). Not to forget, the packaging itself was really top-notch (see what I did there) and the unboxing-experience has been really premium. First impressions on the phone? That premium glass-sandwich design with aerospace-grade aluminium + that diamond-cut finish on the back, oh my 🔥👌 Sure the glass-back is indeed a fingerprint-magnet and extremely-slippery, so the bundled-case do really help (although it gets yellow fast, which is a normal thing over time for every TPU-material or thermoplastic polyurethane) - so yeah, consider replacing it like in a month or two. The phone feels solid - have already dropped from 3-4 feet height like 2-3 times; not a scratch not a dent. I'm impressed Asus 🙃 P.S.: Had an impact right on the side of the screen-digitizer on a sharp iron-plate (it was hard, a hard brake while travelling in a bus, you can anticipate). Broke the tempered-glass hard, but not even a single-chip on the glass :D 2. SCREEN AND DISPLAY: This can easily be the best LCD-panel on an Android-smartphone, hands-down. Hecc, this can even compete with Apple's LiquidRetina Display. 6.2-inches Super-IPS 1080x2246p 19:9 Display - Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Supports HDR. Easily readable even in the brightest of days. What more would you need, especially at this price-point? 3. INTERNALS AND PERFORMANCE: A 2.80GHz 8-core Snapdragon 845 with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM, with UFS 2.1 storage. Batmobile in disguise 🔥 my first phone was the Zenfone 5 from 2014 and the ZenUI has come a long-way ever since. It *is* fast and fluid with periodic-updates - their test Geekbench-scores based on Android 9.0 are actually live at the time of this review so expect good-stuff :) System is well-optimized, fast bootups and app-startups and RAM-management on the 6GB-variant is as good as in the 8GB counterpart of (you know? 😏) if not better. Had no sweat while heavy-multitasking, playing PUBG at ultra with HDR on, even video-encoding and multi image-rendering. Really impressed. P.S.: They added gesture-navigation recently with lift-to-wake. Fingerprint-unlock and face-unlock are heavenly-fast and accurate. 4. CAMERA AND AUDIO: The main Sony IMX-363 12MP-sensor hasn't been any disappointing so far. Sure, it tends to overexpose shots every now and then but each software-update has been making it only better so it's not big of a problem. Over that, we can now shoot in RAW, so 👌♥️ It is paired with a wide-angle camera, having a 8MP sensor which doesn't disappoint either. The front-camera is a 8MP shooter which is, honestly at-par with an average iPhone, so you can relate what are we talking about here 🌸 All the cameras can shoot HDR and portrait-mode photos. The main camera ofc has its own exclusives tho - which includes Panorama, Slo-Mo videos upto 1080p 240fps, GIF, Time-Lapse and Super-Resolution photos upto (drumrolls, please) a whopping 49MP! And no, it's honestly not a gimmick. Not a big-time user of the portrait-mode since for that I'm mostly going to use my DSLR but the ZenFone 5z does offer live-preview of the aperture-setting ranging from f/22 to f/0.95 and live-filters ofc. Low-light sensitivity is respectable - the "AI" kicks-in in that regard and decreases the shutter-speed; letting-in more light. The OIS surely help in those situations (which reminds me of the fact that the phone does have OIS+EIS on the main-camera and EIS on the other two; so the video-stabilization is actually good in this phone). What's more, the pixel-size on the main-sensor is 1.4mu-metres; which is the same as in the newly-released iPhone-XS, which is like the cherry-on-the-cake 🍰 The audio on this phone is truly hi-res. Being an audiophile and music-producer myself; it has been truly a lovely-time listening to a plethora-types of music. It comes with DTS-Audio and supports Apt-X Audio when listening on Bluetooth v5.0+ headsets. If you're on the cheap and looking for a earphone, no need - the bundled-earset actually sounds like a pair of 60-dollar earphones. Don't waste your money on a cheap-pair anyway, because if you are; you're literally missing-out a lot. This phone supports hi-res audio, so go for the hi-res stuff from Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic. Thank me later. 5. WIRELESS AND CONNECTIVITY: The only thing that disappointed me has been the WiFi-reception range in this, gosh the signal-drops to 1-bar or nil if there is a distance of 10-15 feet separated by two-walls. Other than that, the Bluetooth v5.0 is great and can pair and play-audio on multiple-devices. Talking abour cellular, the phone comes with two-SIM slots - one being a hybrid-one which can be used as a MicroSD-slot if otherwise. The 5Z can be enabled with dual-VoLTE while 4G-data can only be enabled on the primary-SIM, 3G on the other. Last but not least, the network-bands do support 4G+ network, provided if your region has it. Signal-reception is quite respectable. Oh yeah, the phone DOES have NFC and a very-efficient GPS :) 6. OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: I think this is one of the loudest-phones I've ever came across, another being the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note and the Vibe X3. Sure it lacks the stereo-imaging but the phone doubles the earpiece-speaker as the second-one while playing media. It also has an outdoor-mode, which cuts-off the lower-frequencies and makes it *as loud as a mid-range bluetooth-speaker* and no I'm not even kidding. My university-mates would ask me WHAT IS IT almost everytime I would play anything with the outdoor-mode on and at max-volume hahah. The notch can be hidden ofc. Although it's been easy for me to get used to, so I use it as is :) UPDATE: The recent ROM-image increased the audio-output quality through BT/wires quite significantly, which is a clear-win over OnePlus 6. There's been an added selfie-panorama option; but it's a heft to use (would say, a gimmick). Waiting for the Pie-Update; in which what we need is a better image-processing algorithm and using the full-potential of the SD845 image-processing by utilising the Spectra 280 ISP and also, putting a 480fps slo-mo mode atleast in 720p if not 1080p (because it is possible thanks to the Sony-IMX363 sensor). It's understandable that 960fps isn't possible because the phone lacks a separate D-RAM for the slo-mo capture as in Note 9 and Mate 20 Pro but 480fps *is* manageable I believe. Final Rate: 8.5/10. Except for the design (well now I like it after 6 months) and the lack of an AMOLED-screen, everything is perfect in this. Feel free to ask me for anything (Insta: @frostxmritz // @mritz.cx) that I'd have missed in this review. If this helped you, I'd kindly request you to upvote this since this encourages me to write more detailed-reviews like this ♥️ have a happy purchase!
