The Mi Note 2 was very much on the cards for today’s launch event in Beijing, but Xiaomi also managed to drop an unexpected bomb – The Mi Mix – A ceramic built phone that comes with a bezel-less 6.4-inch display and a staggering 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio.

So how does this phone manage without bare bone necessities like the earpiece, proximity sensor and selfie camera?

Well, the 5MP selfie camera has been shifted to the bottom. The proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound tech and a piezoelectric crystal which uses the metal frame to generate sound will let you attend calls even without the traditional earpiece!

Since this is a big handset, Fingerprint sensor would have made more sense on the front, but understandably fighting for every mm square worth of space on the front.

The display has 2040 x 1080 pixels fired by 2.35GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 821 64-bit processor with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB/6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.

Other features include 16MP rear camera with dual-tone LED Flash, PDAF, and f/2.0 aperture optics, 4G VoLTE , WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4/5 GHz) MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB Type-C, NFC and a 4300mAh battery.

The Mi Mix certainly looks delicious, but handling that big bezel-less device couldn’t be easy. Even with a decent palm rejection software. Perhaps that’s why this has been labeled as a ‘Concept Phone’.

Availability will be limited to China. The handset goes on sale starting November 4, 2016.
